Blocking from python and/or eselect-python packages, maybe.

Question

[Update: Please skip to my third entry. Two questions: (1) SYNC warning, and (2) python dependency on eselect-python. No, no. That can wait. Please go to the last entry that's mine. Currently stumped with python path config issue with app-pda/libplist. Does someone smart about these things think a reinstall is best idea? Urrrghhhh! Eeekk! Yikes!]

My questionable admin diagnosis: I think what I want to do is unistall dev-lang/python-2.7.10-r4:2.7 or mask app-eselect/eselect-python-20151117-r1. I can't do either.

Trying to do an update of @world. I did the usual delete of offending packages and masking in package.mask. I am unable to remove (emerge -C) python-2.7.10. I did remove eselect-python and now I can't install it even as a one shot (-1).

When I mask in /etc/portage/package.mask, something like below, and I played with have and not having -r1 on eselect-python and -r5 on python.

>=dev-lang/python-3.4.3
>=app-eselect/eselect-python-20151117-r1
>=app-admin/eselect-1.4.5

Seems to not do any masking, but the error message might be slightly different in my update (-u, wit varioius trimmings) error. Next is from 'emerge -uDN --with-bdeps=y --backtrack=30 --autounmask-write --ask @world'

For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:X86/Working/Portage#Blocked_packages

The following packages are causing rebuilds:

  (dev-libs/gmp-6.1.0:0/10.4::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) causes rebuilds for:
    (dev-scheme/guile-2.0.11-r1:0/2.0.11::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge)

I found this issue (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1035254.html), exact same issue with me before I added stuff to package.mask and package.use.force. The part that might be new in start of blocking error message is: "<app-admin/eselect-1.4.5 ("<app-admin/eselect-1.4.5" is blocking sys-devel/binutils-config-5-r1, sys-devel/binutils-config-5-r2)".

It may be because, besides adding lines to package.mask, I added to package.use.force hoping that would be the funtoo equivalent to the gentoo solution at the linked webpage.

The solution there without explanation as to why it worked is (not in my English):
in your /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/package.keywords wrote:

=app-eselect/eselect-python-20151117-r1 ~amd64
dev-lang/python:2.7

Added following to package.use.force without obvious effect on portage package selection or dependency resolution. Not sure it forces anything.

## Guess on temp issue.
app-lang/python-3.3.5-r2
app-eselect/eselect-python-20140125

I use ~amd64. Had to because I needed latest drivers when this laptop was new. I would go back to regular amd64 but that is not possible, I believe, from what I think I have read at the funtoo portal.

For the enduring who have come this far...

It seems to me per the gentoo forum solution that this is an architecture problem of the linue distribution inputs. Does waiting for portage tree updates seem a likely solution or am I uniquely screwed? I don't know what more relevant info I can provide. Scroll blindness is no solution for either of us.

At this point I wonder if I should just copy a whole new portage tree image per the install workaround (as it used to be as I recall) and build a new @world from that. If you have good advice on what to try or not try, I could use it.

Thanks for reading. Happy holidays. Get off the computer. ;)

Struggling forward. Got the world to update. No sound and genkernel does not get my file for --config=file and I don't know what. Anywho, the previous problems are gone or transmogrified. I unmasked several python versions and masked libplist1.12 and 1.11-r2, and firefox-43.0 which crashes for me. When I log out of Xwindows the screen is on and all black and I must reboot manually. Thanks for looking, everyone. Happy New Year.

It seems that the problem was that the portage tree had no python 2.7.10, only 2.7.10-r{1,2,3}, as I showed with the first console shot.

I renamed the directory (tree) /var/db/pkg/dev-lang/python-2.7.10 to an 'invalid name'.

?that didn't work. Put it back.

The official documentation is this: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:X86/Working/Portage#Blocked_packages. It says: "To fix a blockage, users can choose to not install the package or unmerge the conflicting package first."

This is ticking me off (silly me not no python needed for portage, tee he, who knew):

Computer me # emerge -C python
 * This action can remove important packages! In order to be safer, use
 * `emerge -pv --depclean <atom>` to check for reverse dependencies before
 * removing packages.
 * Not unmerging package dev-lang/python-2.7.10 since there is no valid reason
 * for Portage to unmerge currently used Python interpreter.

>>> No packages selected for removal by unmerge
Computer me #
Computer me # emerge -1 python
Calculating dependencies... done!

section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):

Computer me #

emerge -u python does not work. And I have this problem.

Computer me # boot-update
/usr/bin/python: no supported Python implementation variant found!

Okay, so let's suppose it is an upstream error. Seems that "Bug 568058 - dev-libs/boost-1.57.0: fails to build with app-eselect/eselect-python-20151117-r1". It would sure make me feel more sure of that if there were more evidence of the problem.

I had commented out the SYNC variable in make.conf. Restoring it seems to have helped somewhat. I then set the subarch with epro. Getting the SYNC warnings like crazy as before.

Computer # cat /etc/portage/repos.conf/gentoo
[DEFAULT]
main-repo = gentoo

[gentoo]
location = /usr/portage
sync-type = git
sync-uri = git://github.com/funtoo/ports-2012.git
auto-sync = yes
Computer #

And still blocking (and note the two -r4 versions which apparently don't exist, hahahahaha or should I say jajajajajajajaja)...

[blocks B      ] <dev-lang/python-3.3.5-r4:3.3 ("<dev-lang/python-3.3.5-r4:3.3" is blocking app-eselect/eselect-python-20151117-r1)
[blocks B      ] <dev-lang/python-2.7.10-r4:2.7 ("<dev-lang/python-2.7.10-r4:2.7" is blocking app-eselect/eselect-python-20151117-r1)

 * Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
 * installed at the same time on the same system.

How can that be if the two python's depend on eselect-python???!!! Should python depend on eselect-python???

Computer # equery d eselect-python

dev-lang/python-3.3.5-r2 (app-eselect/eselect-python)
Computer #

And now, presenting for the first time, after some attempts to resolve this, the new issues (a bit higher in the output than the python blocker lines)...

[blocks b      ] <=sys-apps/openrc-0.12.4-r4 ("<=sys-apps/openrc-0.12.4-r4" is blocking sys-apps/corenetwork-1.5.5)

[blocks b      ] >=sys-devel/llvm-3.7 (">=sys-devel/llvm-3.7" is blocking media-libs/mesa-10.5.2)

And now I see that the blocking versions of python are not the installed versions.

If I run 'emerge -ve @system', I still get the won't-run-blocking blues.

Doc, do you think my installation of funtoo is fubar??

The B block on eselect-python required that I unmask and oneshot python2 and python3 versions (I chose the lowest that would clear) and the new eselect-python. I don't know why the masking of python is so heavy. I may have made progress or just made a better mess. I got reasonably far with updating @system.

I am stuck on the package libplist-1.12 (I tried both 1.12 and 1.11-r2 and got the same results).

Geeeeez #

Here is the big old error file that the error message said I should include.

/var/tmp/portage/app-pda/libplist-1.12/work/libplist-1.12_build-python3_3/config.log: Too damn large!!! If you want some part or the whole thing some other way...

/var/tmp/portage/app-pda/libplist-1.12/temp/build.log is what was displayed with the failed emerge.

Here is some other fun:
