  1. Well, a time ago I knew about Gentoo and Funtoo and I liked the philosophy and how it works, then I decided to install Funtoo on my notebook (that I'm using right now). Someday I tried to install VLC and in the middle of the installation, when compiling QtGui, my notebook stopped being hot and noisy (what is normal when it's compiling packages). So I checked the processor cores with htop and it seemed like the compilation process just was dead. I waited some more minutes and nothing... I decided to cancel the installation. Later I tried to install Aseprite and the Allegro package has needed as well, so I started emerging the packages but when my notebook was compiling Allegro just occurred an Emake error with no much details about what happened. Then I decided to install Aseprite by compiling manually (as shown on its github page) and it worked fine. Finally some days ago I tried to install nextcloud-client package that required some Qt packages and once again the installation failed but this time with an error saying that my notebook processor has not support for aes. I also tried to install G'MIC on my GIMP but I could not be able to do that; I suspect that because I don't have any Qt package and because that G'MIC (that uses Qt) does not work. What can I do to solve this situation? I tried to use Entropy package manager but occurred some conflicts and I had to reinstall Funtoo. I also tried to install some packages with Flatpak, but it does not have some packages (qutebrowser for example). Is there a another way to install binary packages or to solve the compilation errors?
  2. One or more updates skipped due to dependency conflict: dev-libs/libxml2-2.9.9-r1 conflicts with dev-util/itstool-2.0.6-r1 This was on 'emerge @system' Anyone know the steps to resolve? Tried --backtrack=500 and even removing both. Also tried --emptytree

  4. Hello, I was going finally to update my ego profile to 1.3 following this guide: https://www.funtoo.org/Upgrade_Instructions/1.3-release I've followed every step and checked that it worked as intended. I've just done the this step now (succesfully): emerge -auDN @system --ignore-world Now, the next step would to to run emerge -auDN @world But this one, it fails spectacularly... These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies .. ....... ...... ...... done! However, it is also possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if that will solve this conflict automatically. For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook. so, now I'm unsure about how to proceed... I also noticed there's a lot of ebuilds that are actually a *downgrade* from the previous 1.2 release? Is that correct? cheers.
  5. whenever I finish doing something in emerge such as installing a package or updating my system I get the message config file 'etc/portage/package.use' needs updating however when I look for the file I can't find it and I am not sure how to update it as I can't find it, my guess was to do emerge -auDN etc/portage/package.use but it says it's not a valid package atom, I've looked on the wiki and have prodded around for a few days but have been unable to find a solution. Thank you for the help in advance, and best regards!

  16. Hello, Funtoo users! I want to know how to update world when a dependepcy package could not be downloaded by Portage (error 404 Not found or timeout reason). # emerge -avuDN --with-bdeps=y --newrepo @world .... --2018-02-17 18:24:05-- ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/cmd_tars/xfsprogs-4.5.0.tar.gz (try: 3) => ‘/var/cache/portage/distfiles/xfsprogs-4.5.0.tar.gz’ Connecting to oss.sgi.com|192.48.178.134|:21... failed: Connection timed out. I added this to https://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-4795 To fix an issue I did this: found source here https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/fs/xfs/xfsprogs/ Downloaded requested version xfsprogs-4.5.0.tar.xz. But it was XZ archive, but Portage uses ebuild where GZ archive is using, I created xfsprogs-4.5.0.tar.gz and placed here: /var/cache/portage/distfiles/xfsprogs-4.5.0.tar.gz I run emerge @world again but it attempts to dowbload from site, not using cache dir. What to do? I did not emerged this package manually with `emerge -1 =sys-fs/xfsprogs-4.5.0` cause I do not need this in my world -- want it rest dependency only.
  17. I am completely new to installing Gentoo/Funtoo and have had no problems up until updating my @world set. This is giving me an issue and seems like nothing is working. I have done some research on the Gentoo and Funtoo forums with no luck. I tried to just follow the install from the handbook and ran "emerge -auDN @world" and then got this. Code can be found here: https://pastebin.com/z9jbJDHG From there I am at a loss and do not know how to proceed. If anyone has any insight on what I can try to do to fix it or some other commands that I can run to get more info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also here is the "emerge --info" command output: https://pastebin.com/sth62kVg I see that is asked for in a lot of questions.

  19. Hello everybody, Could somebody give me some hints finding a detailed howto /eventually the git page about the algorithm used by Funtoo/Gentoo. I'd like to understand the way it calculates the dependency resolution. As far as i can understand, this is made during the emerge -(p)vDuna @world option. Am i right if i am saying this is done through the root/trunk/leave node dependency calculation (written in python?).
  20. hello again, i've the following set into my ego.conf: xorg-kit = 1.19-prime media-kit = 1.1-prime kde-kit = master however on today sync i've got this message: "Kit kde-kit branch master specified in ego.conf is not currently active; using default kit instead." so why can i not choose kde-kit's master branch anymore in ego.conf? i've forced the master branch checkout by adding: @git -C /home/meta-repo/kits/kde-kit checkout origin/master || true into eix-sync.conf, however i wonder why these kind of hacks are necessary... thank you
  21. Hello! Once I had updated world and got x11 packages was broken : http://forums.funtoo.org/topic/1224-xorg-modules-fail-while-update-world/ I use Funtoo on two laptops: one I use everyday and can spell much time for experiments. Other needs to be workable without my attention. Is there emerge flags that will show me world update will go fine: all dependencies will be solved correctly ??
