    [Solved]"boot-update" Error

Hello, I am back at it again. I have not been able to get grub to boot for me. I reinstalled grub and made sure that I changed my grub.cfg to show the "genkernel". However, when I run "boot-update" I get these errors: # boot-update boot-update 1.8.2 / Copyright 2009-2017 Funtoo Technologies [use option "-l" for license info, "-h" for help] * Generating config for grub... * NOTE: Detected UEFI boot. Configuring for UEFI booting. * WARN: Image for section memtest86+ not found - /memtest86.bin * WARN: No boot/default match found - using first boot entry by default. * NOTE: Intel microcode will be loaded at boot-time. * Completed successfully with warnings. I have installed "sys-apps/memtest86+" and I still get the errors. I thank you for the help.
  2. After many many considerations I went for EFI-boot in faovour of good old BIOS-boot using syslinux. The fall back solution is still BIOS-boot using extlinux. Problem is that with the very same (carefully verified) initramfs and kernel all my 16GB ram shows up in BIOS boot while only 4GB (well, 3.5) shows up booting from EFI. Any hint on the reason to this? My world does not depend on EFI-boot, the BOIS boot works very well and will be my primary until this is sorted out, but it would be good to understand. Some facts; Motherboard is ASUSTeK SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 Rev 1.xx BIOS is dated Date: 05/04/2016 and version 2901 that seems to be the latest version. # uname -a Linux kalle 4.13.12-gentoo #6 SMP PREEMPT Thu Dec 14 07:42:52 CET 2017 x86_64 AMD FX(tm)-9590 Eight-Core Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux I have tried several combinations of legacy modes including no legacy support (CSM disabled).

    Pure UEFI + Luks + ZFS ?

hello first like to thank you for the forum to have the participation of the creator of the Best Linux distro created and an honor. good i use linux just over two years, but there a few months decides to abandon the simplest distros such as Ubuntu, Debian .... and decides to migrate pro Arch Linux, but found it very easy then went pro Gentoo and Funtoo Finally a few days, I plan on not leaving until he creates own. Finally, I would like to use PURE-UEFI + Luks + ZFS, and I wonder if this is possible or do I have to install Grub?

    GPT encrypted boot problem

I am attempting to install Funtoo to my HP 17-e016dx. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03943159&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=6521424 My system loads Grub 2 and then when I select my funtoo OS it goes on to a black screen with my caps lock blinking. My logical conclusion is that my grub isn't proceding to decrypt my cryptcontainer. In my grub I press e to edit and it loads this up. setparams 'Funtoo Linux -bzImage-3.1.fapp' insmod part_gpt insmod ext2 set root=(hostdisk//dev/sda,gpt1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7ccfb22-7ccfb622-7846-4387-8168-12ffd784a2e5 linux /bzImage-3.1.fapp video=vesafb rootfstype=ext4 root=/dev/mapper/vg-root set gfxpayload=1600x900 After installing using this guide, http://www.funtoo.org/Installation_%28Tutorial%29#GPT.2FGUID_partition_table I set it up with this partition table 1 200Mb 0700 2 512Kb EF02 3 695Gb 0700 Then after 32 hours of encrypting my drive and securing it with my pass I created my logic valumes. And then my filesystem. Then I mounted the filesystem as directed. I used the AMD64 piledriver package for my OS. After chrooting the system I set a few values like the MAKEOPTS-"j5" Of course it took me a few days to configure my kernel. I modified my boot.conf as directed. This is where I guess it went wrong, but i don't truely know. But the system doesn't seem to want to decrpyt. The grub file doesn't mention the slashbeast, busybox, crytpsetup, or lvm. IDK if it is supposed to though. From there I simply continued to follow the tutorial. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    UEFI hangs

Hello, I followed this guide for setting up UEFI: http://www.funtoo.org/UEFI_Install_Guide After I select an option from GRUB the screen just goes black. I have SSH server on for testing and the system never goes up. I have tried with both the debian binary kernel and a custom kernel. I also haven't ran an emerge -auDN world (maybe this is my problem), as I'd imagine it shouldn't matter if Xorg radeon drivers are installed to get to a shell. Here is the config for the custom kernel I tried. Here is my make.conf And my grub.cfg Any ideas? My video card is an R9 270x if that helps :). Thanks.
