  1. I've recently installed Funtoo 1.4 (I did a zero fill on my HD early, instead updating from Funtoo 1.3), and now after I've installed all (or almost all) programs I want, I'm experiencing a very bad bug that makes my screen freeze when I open certain progs. It has first occurred when I opened the Youtube page on surf browser. The screen just got frozen although the mouse still be changing accordingly with the application. To bribe this situation I have to quit dwm (which is the window manager that I use) and then open it again by doing startx. It also occurs everytime I try to open Vivaldi browser. Immediately when the program opens the screen freezes. My notebook wich Funtoo 1.4 is installed has 4Gb of RAM, Intel Core I3 processor and Intel HD Graphics 3000. I have set gfxcard-intel on epro profile and intel i965 on make.conf. While I've been doing this topic my screen just got frozen 2 times on surf, both when I tried to search something on Google and it had Youtube content involved; and I realized that the X log (that shows up in the terminal when I do startx) sometimes shows errors related to GDK. The last one reported an IO problem from GDK. Please, can anybody help me with this issue? I also have experienced other issues with this new update of Funtoo and I'll make other topics to report them, wich I think it's the best I can do at this moment.
  2. Hi guys, I am installing Funtoo 1.4 and Plasma on my new laptop Dell Inspiron 14 5480 (intel i5-8265U). Everything is great except sddm login screen. While typing password, it reacts really slow. Not only the keyboard but also every event is slow. Then I checked /var/log/Xorg.0.log and found the following messages. 3. Hi everyone! I am former Arch user, who decided to try Funtoo. Installation went well until I had to emerge Xorg. I have AMD video card, so I added VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" to make.conf and switched to "desktop" in epro, just as wiki says, but when I tried to test Xorg by running "startx" - I got an error "No screen found". Does it require some kernel modification? I am new to this kind of stuff. Log file in attachments. Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance, Johny. 4. Hi! I try to recompile all my world with -O3 but I am a novice beneath a portage sky. I had been trying to emerge xorg-drivers and seen that xf86-input-evdev is masked. I deleted it with a thought that emerging xorg-x11 will get all dependencies. But it did not. So this had broken my laptop: # emerge --unmerge xf86-input-evdev # emerge xorg-x11 # reboot Now I cannot type my pass in SLIM and there is no mouse. I have usb-srick with system-rescue-cd. So how turn back my system? How to emerge xorg-x11 with all dependencies. One remark: I do not want to add to my world xorg-drivers cause wise man said: ''World contains programs that have dependencies. World is not dependencies.'
  5. Hello Not new in Funtoo but I forgot how to have my FR keymap in the terminal under Xorg (gnome). I'm in a fresh install with a new laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 13''). (OutOfTopic : The touchscreen, and the tablet-mode are OK out of the box with Gnome) The goal is to use "FR/Azerty" keymap Modified files but not give satisfaction /etc/conf.d/keymaps /etc/env.d/02locale /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-keymap.conf /etc/locale.gen /etc/portage/make.conf In the terminal, when reboot in text mode (rc-update del xdm), the keymap FR is OK When activating graphic mode in boot (rc-update add xdm default), login screen (lightdm) is in FR, and applications in graphic are in FR (eg. firefox, gedit). But when I open a terminal (gnome-terminal), keymap is in US/UK (qwerty), when I do setxkbmap fr, it's OK. The question is, how to make it permanent? 02locale 11-keymap.conf keymaps locale.gen make.conf
  6. I have following modules compiled and loaded cat /etc/conf.d/modules modules="thunderbolt appledisplay facetimehd binfmt_misc" The thunderbolt display would turns on during boot before lightdm greeter (login screen) and sometimes keep working after I log on, but most of the times it turns off right before the greeter appears and becomes black. Sometimes log out and login repeatedly helps to activate the thunderbolt display. I can, however, always select and use the speakers on the thunderbolt display. xrandr output: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2560 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384 DP-1 connected primary 2560x1440+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 597mm x 336mm 2560x1440 59.95*+ 1280x720 59.86 DP-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) The thunderbolt display is actually connected physically to DP-2. The ouput of xrandr and xorg's log above were produced with the empty /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and empty /etc/X11/xorg.conf. All in all, I still have no clues how to fix this. Help is much appreciated.
  7. Hi there! As predicted it's me again... When trying to start x it starts... and ends with the error "xterm: not found" Next I tried: "X -configure" ending with the error: "no devices to configure" So... can you help and what information do you need? Have patience with a newbie... :D EDIT: I followed the instructions "X Window System" and was able to start the simple GUI. Next step will be setting up MATE....
  8. Hi, I'd like to rotate the screen by 90? in a Funtoo based system on KDE Plasma 5. Unfortunately I can't do that by the KDE System Settings -> Display and Monitor: Orientation (doesn't work). I tried to add an xorg conf file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-monitor.conf according to this but has no effect. I don't know whether I should change /etc/sddm.conf or what is the solution. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks
  9. OK - here is the only line in my logs that might explain: Taro ~ # grep '(EE)' /var/log/Xorg.0.log (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. [ 478.015] (EE) AIGLX error: failed to open /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/dri/fglrx_dri.so, error[/usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/dri/fglrx_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] This is odd because the file is in /usr/lib64/modules/dri. Why is it looking in the wrong place and how do I tell it to look in the right place? but later, it says .. [ 478.266] ukiOpenByBusid: ukiGetBusid reports PCI:0:1:0 [ 478.904] (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized OpenGL driver(II) GLX: Initialized DRI GL provider for screen 0 So .. did it initialize or not? Did it finally look in the right place and find it? Am I chasing shadows? The X server starts up, initializes the monitors (no picture though), and then shuts down. It never says WHY it shuts down. I can pastebin the full log if anyone wants to read it. However, it leaves my screen in an unusable state. Likely, because of: [ 481.169] (II) fglrx(0): Restoring Recent Mode via PCS is not supported in RANDR 1.2 capable environments So ... once I try starting it, I have to reboot! That makes debugging this myself time consuming. Anyone have any suggestions, or seen this before?
