  1. Thanks for your reply and suggestion, I wonder if there is a way to clean up my noob approach with mask and unmask etc.
  2. If you can't contribute or know how to help, that is not a problem, but don't give me that wiki shit, thanks.
  3. OK, I think I have to hold my horses back from aslking questions so quick. I installed nm-applet and added it to auto start and now it is working fine. Next subject will be sound but I will figure around a bit before I post another question, sorry guys.
  4. I have a fresh install of funtoo XFCE4, ethernet network is working fine, but wireless, doesn't show. I used (chroot) # emerge linux-firmware networkmanager (chroot) # rc-update add NetworkManager default and it installed fine. sorry to get you guys thru my birth pain with Funtoo ;-)
  5. OK, I run emerge -- ask linux-firmware networkmanager and then I had to merge 2 config files running etc-update after that I run again emerge linux-firmware networkmanager and it installed fine, phew, it's done.
  6. (chroot) bell / # epro show-json { "flavor": [ { "shortname": "core", "path": "/usr/portage/profiles/funtoo/1.0/linux-gnu/flavor/core" } ], "mix-ins": [ { "shortname": "xfce", "path": "/usr/portage/profiles/funtoo/1.0/linux-gnu/mix-ins/xfce" } ], "build": [ { "shortname": "current", "path": "/usr/portage/profiles/funtoo/1.0/linux-gnu/build/current" } ], "subarch": [ { "shortname": "generic_64", "path": "/usr/portage/profiles/funtoo/1.0/linux-gnu/arch/x86-64bit/subarch/generic_64" } ], "arch": [ { "shortname": "x86-64bit", "path": "/usr/portage/profiles/funtoo/1.0/linux-gnu/arch/x86-64bit" } ] } (chroot) bell / # inbetweenI installed XFCE4, hoping it would fix some issues, maybe it did ;-) however, how can a basic important tool like network (for a computer) cause so much trouble?

  8. OK, I added "dev-libs/glib-2.48.2" to my "/etc/portage/make.conf" in my USER line and run it again and now it seems to work (still compiling) I will mark it solved after compiling was successful. However, as noob to Funtoo, I am afraid, I will show up more often in the near future ;-) Thank you, Oleg for your reply, I will come back in case install would have failed. Dirk
  9. Dear funtoo community, I did it, I started my install of funtoo, but can't get the networkmanager installed :-( Also, I do know the --autounmask-write comand but don't know how to add this ">=dev-libs/glib-2.48.2 dbus" to USE??? I am just starting, so please be patient with me ;-) Thank you for everyone willing to help Dirk (chroot) bell / # emerge linux-firmware networkmanager * IMPORTANT: 3 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'. * Use eselect news read to view new items. * IMPORTANT: 3 config files in '/etc/portage' need updating. * See the CONFIGURATION FILES and CONFIGURATION FILES UPDATE TOOLS * sections of the emerge man page to learn how to update config files.
