waynedpj reacted to AdiosKid in Bentōō (An user-friendly Stage4 of Funtoo Linux.)
Hi folks O/
few years ago I wonder about a friendly version of Gentoo and Funtoo, the gentoo community don't liked, but I keep did some tests but I didn't continue, well, few week ago I start again, but this time only a Funtoo Friendly version, and now I have something really beginning.
the project will resume in few flavors and one version with a overlay with update packages and few extra.
the funtoo flavors are X+openbox, gnome and Plasma, they are just the Funtoo Stage3 Generic with few packages and some configuration.
and has one version with plasma, but with an overlay with few update packages and other stuffs, a stage more out of the box, I want make something to people learn about gentoo/funtoo or for who use the system without spent hours to build the system.
the webiste will be done in the next weeks, and the stages will be available in the next days "sorry, I'm with one pc now, and the net is a turtle".
website -> https://bentoo.info/
binhost -> http://binhost.bentoo.info
github repos :
overlay -> https://github.com/lucascouts/bentoo
configurations -> https://github.com/lucascouts/bentoo-cfg
I don't know if the funtoo community will like but anyway I'll forward with this project, but will be great if few users could help with feedback or criticisms.
thank you anyway ?

waynedpj reacted to AdiosKid in Stages4 and a LiveDVD
Hi folks, I create a article on (vivaolinux) is a great forum about Linux and software on Brazil.
link : https://www.vivaolinux.com.br/topico/Funtoo/LiveDVD-e-Stage4-para-o-Funtoo
is not a article but more a ideia to request users to help to make that ideia real.
so, that is the resume of the text :
I'm a Funtoo user about 2 years and Gentoo user one year before and I think that missing a Livedvd to Funtoo and Stages4 with more packges as "Xorg" or some desktop as "Plasma 5"
Gentoo has now "again" a LiveDVD
Gentoo LiveDVD : http://gentoo.mirrors.tds.net/pub/gentoo//releases/amd64/20160704/
and Stages4 to Cloud :
http://distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/amd64/autobuilds/current-stage4-amd64-cloud/
the Area31 has a Livecd too, but is not like I talk about :
https://www.area31.net.br/wiki/RescueCD_oficial
so, the question is reduse the time to install the system of course more one option not change to a easy system like sabayon as a example.
but has stages with more packges and few desktops, to make the installation more faster, of course all of this optimized by arch as the current Stages3 that Funtoo has
and a liveDVD as Gentoo with a installer, to new users, again as other option beyond CLI
to make the Distro more popular, to explore more the potention of this amazing distro.
so what your members think about it ?
thanks

waynedpj got a reaction from AdiosKid in binary packages available?
ahoy all,
long time Gentoo user getting a little tired of long and loud compile times on my used hardware, was looking for other options and stumbled upon Funtoo. i am very interested in the philosophy and lots of the features. nice work!
however, just wondering if there is a public source for binary builds of packages beyond the common XXXX-bin packages (e.g. firefox-bin, libreoffice-bin, etc), i.e. a public BINHOST server in Gentoo parlance? there are not really any options for Gentoo so i realize this is a long shot. i am also aware that getting binary packages with all the matching arch, compile options and USE flags will be difficult, but it seems like modern portage features such as this would help with that. or at least having binary packages with sane USE flags built for common architectures would be a huge help, as i want to stick with Xtoo+OpenRC but compiling on old hardware (which i exclusively use) is becoming a problem.
thanks!
peace, w
