Hi there!
If I want to do an new installation using reiserfs as filesystem...
I would follow the standard installation instructions exept at "Creating filesystems" I should use
"mkfs.reiserfs /dev/sda3" instead of "mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda3" ?
Could reiserfs also be used for the boot partition?
Thanks for your advice! :) :D
Hi nrc,
what about an email? Just a short message to distrowatch.com that funtoo is systemd-free by default...
Funtoo is listed at without-systemd.org, so the folks at distrowatch could check this easily.
:)
Hi there!
As predicted it's me again...
When trying to start x it starts... and ends with the error "xterm: not found"
Next I tried: "X -configure" ending with the error: "no devices to configure"
So... can you help and what information do you need?
Have patience with a newbie... :D
EDIT: I followed the instructions "X Window System" and was able to start the simple
GUI. Next step will be setting up MATE....
Hi there!
I am lost again.
when I tried to "emerge --sync" to update the system I only got this message:
"Syncing repository 'gentoo' into '/usr/portage'...
fatal: Unable to look up github.com (port 9418) (Temporary failure in name resolution)
!!! git pull error in /usr/portage ...
q: Updating ebuild cache in /usr/portage ...
q: Finished 38880 entries in 0.459652 seconds"
So what's the story??? Can you help?

Hi cardinal!
Thank you again for your suggestion! It worked flawlessly!
Now the system is set up and rebooted. Next step will be - when i will be able to
spare time again - to install and setup xorg. Maybe you will find there a new post from me.... :P

Hi there!
I'm new to funtoo - to linux too to be honest... :-)
I tried an installation according to the section "install" at the website.
Everything worked until i came to the headline "chroot into Funtoo"; actualy in this part it's NOT
mentioned how to chroot in the new system EXACTLY.
I tried several approachses like "chroot /dev/sdc" because there would be my root directory, according
to the previous steps.. But it doesn't work a bit. I searched the net but found nothing that helped me.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help
