Hello Everyone!
I didn't want to cling on the the previous "UEFI Hangs" thread, so I started my own.
I recently bought a laptop and have been trying out different distros on it this weekend. I attempted to install Funtoo using the UEFI Install guide, and it hanged as the "known issues" section shows. I think I may be interpreting something wrong.
The question I have regarding this page is the following. The page states:
With pure UEFI boot mode, with legacy mode disabled, following error expected:
- video driver not supported, boot hangs, hard reboot required.
- grub:NAME of you hard drive
I've had enough experience this weekend to know that on my brand new laptop, there is a pure "UEFI boot mode + Secure Boot", a "pure UEFI boot mode (no secure boot)", and a "Legacy Enabled mode".
So, what does "Choose UEFI first, next legacy driver" mean? Does it refer to booting in Legacy mode? If so, why UEFI first?
Does that mean that I still have to install a UEFI type system, despite it booting in Legacy mode?
.... and if all this fails miserably, is it possible to install Funtoo in a traditional BIOS/MBR fashion by booting it as Legacy mode?
I'm a bit confused. Any help appreciated. :)
That being said, given that documentation, perhaps put in a mention in the beginning of the document stating that there is a preferred mode to install UEFI, given known issues with this type of install (and linking to the bottom). That way, if you're following the guide, you know the perils of taking one direction, or taking another.
Thanks in advance! Hope my questions make sense!

Hello Guys,
I just bought a laptop, and am trying to get UEFI to boot correctly. I keep hanging in a black screen, and to be quite honest, would like to keep away from overlaying anything outside the "boot-updater" way.
I'm going to try to just use legacy booting for now, but will update if I have any success in the future with UEFI booting.
Edit : I think this bug might have something to do with it. I'll use the overlay method, once this but is fixed however, I'll use the proper funtoo method. :)
Edit 2: I can confirm using the gentoo grub worked for me as well. I just had to add the initrd line to my grub.conf, which was missing. Once I have a graphical windows manager, I'll reference the full line just to be clear. Thanks!

Okay. I will be working on resources for new developers. Flora was run as sort of a side-project, and that was probably not the best approach. An effort like that needs to be fully integrated into the main Funtoo Linux project, which I will do. That should solve the problem by ensuring that your work is paid more attention to and you are given the resources you need to be successful and learn.
Excellent! Thanks!
Looking forward to it with religious zeal!!!!! :P

First off, thanks for all the efforts across the board that Oleg and yourself have done.
I am also one who enjoys using Funtoo and highly appreciates the efforts put into it.
:) You're welcome.
I am going to continue working on our documentation to help train new developers.
I've always wanted to get more involved in a linux distro, and I have a lot of experience as a hobbyist on Gentoo, then Funtoo since 2002.
I wanted to ask, how much background or what would be the starting point in order to participate and start as new developer?
I don't want to get into my particular background here on the forums and in turn make it about myself, but wanted to get an idea of a starting point for a new dev, and if I'm not at that starting point, read/study up to get there and be able to contribute! ;)

Dumb Question.
Mininet is a VM.
I'll try to get it to work using VirtualBox. After, I'll post if there were any issues or how I overcame them.

KDE with kde mix-in and current build profile has worked fine. I haven't had any problems or main issues using KDE, besides lack of automount or detection from a usb drive. But I have to work on this later, since it might be another factor (might have to check fstab).
uname -a :
Linux FuntooBox.MainRoom.Home 3.14.4-1 #1 SMP Fri May 23 16:29:30 EDT 2014 x86_64 AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
I have tried to install gnome, and have had issues with this. That is, replacing kde mix-in with gnome, and then trying to go for a gnome-light or gnome install.
If you need any more informatio, I could do this in a couple of hours. Let me know what you guys need.

Hello all! First post on the new forums.
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but...
I searched mininet in the zugaina overlay directory, found something but it doesn't seem that it's what I'm looking for. only thing found on there was a palm (emulation) environment.
Anyone have this installed, or know of an ebuild that would help?
Thanks!
