  1. j-g-, I posted in that way because the output *really* said nothing. no errors so far). Thank you!
  2. Hi, following what Daniel said about blockers (blockers are bugs) I've filled a bug. Feel free to close this post if necessary. Thank you!
  3. Hi guys, I've got installed in my system w3af, which as netcat as a dependency. Now I need to install libvirt which has as a RDEPEND netcat6. This causes the following blockage: net-analyzer/netcat ("net-analyzer/netcat" is blocking net-analyzer/netcat6-1.0-r2) netcat6 isn't supposed to be tied to an ipv6 USE? Anyway, is there any way to make this two packages coexist? Thanks in advance!
  4. Hey, I wanted to let you know that I've fixed it by myself: 1. Remove berkdb USE from libetpan and emerge it: I did USE=-berkdb emerge -N libetpan. 2. Re-enable that USE and re-emerge the package: I did emerge -N libetpan. Thanks!
  5. Hello, Did you try Xorg -configure as root and then trying the suggested config file? Which card do you have? If that doesn't work, I'd go for the appropriate kernel config for your specific card. Given that several cards have a similar name but are from different generations (thus using different modules), I would not rely just in the info given by lspci. Cheers, PeGa!
  6. Hi folks, I've run into a recursive preserved rebuild message after the last system upgrade. This is what happens: >>> Auto-cleaning packages... >>> No outdated packages were found on your system. * GNU info directory index is up-to-date. !!! existing preserved libs: >>> package: sys-libs/db-4.8.30-r1 * - /usr/lib64/libdb-4.8.so * used by /usr/lib64/libetpan.so.17.1.0 (net-libs/libetpan-1.5) Use emerge @preserved-rebuild to rebuild packages using these libraries Now, emerge @preserved-rebuild just rebuilds libetpan and the message above shows up again. Any hint? Thanks in advance!
  7. Hi dantrell, I missed completely the fact that this version comes from mva repository. Sorry about that. app-arch/rpm-4.11.2 builds fine. Thanks for your time.

  9. Hi Oleg, After a couple of syncs the issue with lua didn't solve, so I removed the lua USE from vlc. Thus, I upgraded my whole system, and now I'm with the system upgraded and stable. Now I want to re-add the lua flag to vlc. This is what happens: These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order: Calculating dependencies... done! Perl 5.18

Thank you @navigium, that worked like a charm. Cheers!
  11. Well, I've survived a couple of forum reincarnations :) Hey, what a surprise seeing you over here! Now that you got that fixed, I'd love to see funtoo inside a box of yours. Ping me if you need a hand :) Cheers!

Hey guys, I'm stuck with a system upgrade, because of a big mess caused by Perl 5.18. I feel that half of my system depends on Perl 5.16 and the other half on Perl 5.18 :p. I tried to mask 5.18 but it cries everywhere, and there are packages depending on 5.16 that have no available upgrades. Where should I start? Thanks in advance!

    Skype 4.3 and ALSA

Microsoft, are you serious? Hey guys! I recently woke up from my monthly nap and I noticed that skype stopped working because it became pulseaudio dependent! It has no audio and It sees only virtual devices. I'm masking it as I write, but I do not like masking things as a permanent solution... is this it? Did I reached a point when I have to decide between skype <4.3 or pulseaudio? Thanks in advance.
  14. Update: Now I see dev central (I didn't touch anything), but I see only my post in General Discussion forums. Edit: I tried to delete this post and edit the first one, but I don't know how to delete it, my bad! Edit 2: I see two links in the sidebar, saying forums. Here's what I see, and I see the same under the "Funtoo forums" entry. Cheers! Edit 3 - the revenge of Edits: I don't know how it happened -- I feel like and end user. I swear I did not touch any setting of the forum, but I asked myself If there would be some kind of filter restricting what I was able to see, and yes... I saw a filter under "CUSTOM" showing posts only "From today" under the "Time frame" section. I have two unresolved issues, though: - The first time I logged in, i did not see dev central. I don't know if I hit f5 or something like that, but if I can reproduce the issue I'll post back. - I see "Funtoo Forums" and "Forums", and when I click "Funtoo Forums", what gets activated is "Forums" only. Thanks and sorry about all this mess.
  15. Hey guys, Is something going on with the forums? I'm unable to see any support subforums (and I'm in the need because of a big mess caused by perl 5.18), and when I came to general discussion forum, before clicking the forum I can read "28 topics", and when I enter I see no topics posted (and it says, "no topics found"). Is there something wrong? Did I missed something (a setting maybe?) Thanks in advance!
  16. Thank you Oleg! Will there be a news item notifying this?
  17. Hey folks, I've recently run into a dependency conflict that forced me to remove lua 5.2 from my box. This is the situation: mplayer, ffmpeg and other packages with the libquvi USE and podofo (needed by the pdf USE of krenamer) asked for lua >=5.2. vlc and other programs (I can't recall now) asked for lua <5.2 I ended removing the libquvi USE and the pdf USE of krenamer, but I don't like that as a solution; I tried to slot the new version of lua (and I succeeded) but after doing that somehow the blockage persists as if I never had slotted lua in first place. I saw that this issue appeared in Gentoo forums as well, but in my case, I have programs that rely on both versions. I'm not a lua fanboy (in fact, I didn't knew that so many programs relied on lua) but yes, I'm a fanboy of satisfying every needed dependency on my system in order to provide the best funcionality and user experience available, so I would like to regain the libquvi flag (although it is not a priority) without breaking the system. This is the status of my box right now: sakura pega # equery d dev-lang/lua * These packages depend on dev-lang/lua: app-arch/rpm-4.11.2 (lua ? >=dev-lang/lua-5.1.0[deprecated]) app-editors/vim-7.4.326 (!luajit ? dev-lang/lua[deprecated]) app-editors/vim-qt-20131004 (!luajit ? dev-lang/lua) app-text/podofo-0.9.2 (dev-lang/lua) dev-util/geany-plugins-1.24-r1 (lua ? dev-lang/lua) media-libs/libquvi-0.4.1-r1 (>=dev-lang/lua-5.1[deprecated]) media-video/vlc-2.1.4 (lua ? >=dev-lang/lua-5.1:0) net-analyzer/nmap-6.25 (lua ? >=dev-lang/lua-5.1.4-r1[deprecated]) www-client/elinks-0.12_pre6 (lua ? >=dev-lang/lua-5) I'd really appreciate a hint regarding how to deal with lua and achieve the coexistence between the two versions of lua (5.1 and 5.2). Thanks in advance!
  18. I use to create a file for each program that needs a change in a USE flag. But if there is any dependency that needs a USE change as well, I put that dependency into that first file then. It could be said that I use a package'ish philosophy of package.use files. Works for me :) Regards.
  19. Hi, a *too desktop and server power user/admin here. From a desktop perspective: Wine, skype, and some old binaries (can't think of one now) may still need 32b support (what about flash --which I've abandoned and chromium with pepper does the job for me now-- and java?) From a server perspective: I've suffered a royal PITA some time ago with a NAS from NEC which required a specific version of java (32b of course) for the management console. The customer had installed opensuse 2012 and replacing it was not an option. I think that chroot/virtualization/whichever-jailed-environment is not an elegant solution. Cheers, PeGa!
