hi welcome to the forums. i also am a former slackware user. i did a bit of distro hopping and eventually landed here. that kind of machine i would build over ssh, and take your time. boot live media, setup ssh, and ssh into the live media. have a more powerful gui work station or what ever sshed in, then get screen going on the live media so you can detach the terminals, and leave the system to work in the background.
i think of installing funtoo as like parting together a linux system. you use another live distro temporarily either directly or by ssh, mount the drive and chroot to it's mount point then you can directly repair any problems or fix anything from the chroot. if the system doesn't boot correctly re load chroot, and work on it.
on the new funtoo computer im building the os on to, i partition, and format the hard drive, i install the stage3, a kernel, and a boot loader. once i get that running stable, booting properly with networking, and everything going well, tada i reboot into a working funtoo machine. i emerge everything else i want, and set everything else up like gui, and sound from the funtoo machine, rather than chroot. once that is up you can turn ssh on and work on the funtoo system from anywhere headless. you'll probably want to run that older machine as a server.
i use xubuntu 14.04 live for chrooting on my machine when i install/reinstall/repair it, i dont bother with ssh or other machines anymore. your core 2 machine could handle gui live media so you could chroot from debian live media easily. the core2 machine could probably handle usb live media too. from the live media you can look at the wiki and forums about building what ever, or troubleshoot packages you're having problems with and have access to the funtoo system under the live media via chroot.
i like xubuntu because its set to go for many situations including wifi, where i found debian is a little lean to be using as a repair Swiss army knife. i like the alternate media because its less hoops to jump through and you're already comfortable with it. it would probably be a good idea for you to gist the mounting/chrooting commands you use to load up funtoo on github, and give it good tags so you could google exactly for the commands from live media.

just update the grub on sda. --depclean isn't required to install? if you emerge anything with out the -1 or --oneshot it will generate a world file.

Drobbins. Something is very wrong with the universe. I keep agreeing with your decisions, goals, and even implementations. When I think, "there should be a way to do this better, maybe if ... " I suddenly see you are working on exactly that. I never agree with anyone about computers!
So .. I used to use Gentoo aeons ago, and now that I've tried everything else all over again, its time to rejoin the fold and drink the Kool-aid. I actually trust you to do the right thing with the distro I have on my computer, and I don't trust anyone else ... maybe Linus.

Hi Everyone,
I am going to be making some changes to the project soon, to fulfill the vision of a user-centric community and also make Funtoo more suitable for enterprise systems. Here is what I have found. If you have a single Funtoo system, then the continual changes that we receive from Gentoo are probably not a big deal. You do a system update daily or maybe once a week, resolve any issues, and your system continues to work well with a little hand-holding. However, there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes by angry_vincent and myself to keep things working well. Our tree is created in a totally automated way, but we "fix" things that break as various things in Gentoo are updated. And there is the problem. The automated Gentoo updates are fine for a single system, but if you like me have 5+ Funtoo systems, you do not update your systems regularly and then the various hand-holding, perl-cleaner, revdep-rebuild and blocker resolution is a huge pain. And there is another problem... Angry_vincent and I probably spend 90%+ of our Funtoo time on fixing things that are broken, which means we have no time left to actually create new awesome technology to make Funtoo better. Like a boot-update rewrite, or a metro rewrite, all things that I want to get to. Yes, I find a way to sneak in time to do various things but it is not very ideal. So, for any problem there is a solution. I have a vision of a solution that will give us the ability to have more control over quality, without doing a wholesale fork of all of Gentoo. I don't see the point of forking all of Gentoo... without better planning and technology, we will just duplicate the same problem of continuous rolling release, but have it happen on the Funtoo side. Rolling release is a good thing, but it is not suitable for all users of Funtoo or Gentoo... so we need something that will make Funtoo more capable without working against the benefits of rolling release. Since I am not only a developer, not only BDFL, but also a *user* of Funtoo Linux (and *that* is what I consider myself first and foremost,) I want Funtoo Linux to work for larger scale deployments. And I want developers and *users* to not be continually burdened with unending ebuild updates and break/fix situations. So, over the next few weeks, I am going to be reaching out to our small team of staff and get them up to speed on regular Funtoo maintenance so that I can focus my 'Funtoo' time on developing this new system. Not a new distro, but a new way that Funtoo will manage updates that will give us much more control and the ability to focus on strategic initiatives much, much more than we have in the past. Best Regards, Daniel -

Hello funtooers, I have noticed the lack of Funtoo artwork in general, so I took some time to play around with blender and Inkscape to make some wallpapers(7).
In a search for a base image, I only encountered a small banner with the Funtoo logo, so I did a re-vectorization, and some slight line chages, and this is the outcome, the wallpapers are mostly minimalistic, Also link to a tar.xz with sources (.blend .svg) and pack png of renders in 1920x1080px, I encourage you to play around with the sources and post your results in this thread.

PD: I would Also like to ask to the developers if this can go to the wiki? for those, newcomers that will want a funtoo wall for their desktops.
