  1. its done by gentoo and it's done in weird way by means some ebuilds with new multilib are stable, some are only unstable and some still masked. This is unfortunate situation but we wil fix it. I'm personally interested in ffmpeg stabilization

  2. using stable branch is a root case. In your merge list some package requesting a package that using newer multilib versions, including ffmpeg, which are available only with ~keywords. What will change if you set amd64 x86 keywords for ffmpeg in /etc/portage/package.keywords?

  3. as for this kernel, you'll get update whenever update comes into tree. It depends on how often Debian release updates to kernel, it doens't happen too often but even in this case Funtoo doesn't track these updates immediately. The rule is, if kernel version gets possitive feedback from testers, runs good and stable it kept at this version for some extented period, some kind of LTS. If this policy not acceptable, please, share suggestions.

  4. Yes, Funtoo, suffers from time to time with new multilib transition. The idea of new multilib is probably not bad, gettin rid of emul-linux-*packages. But it's done very creepy. Some converted packages are masked, some only ~keyworded and some are stable. This leading to various uncertain portage issues. I'm more tend to just use either pure64 or x86, like arch linux does. I know sabayon abbandoned 32 bit support. Sorry, cross-posting from mail.

  5. Hi there!

Everyone, recently in Gentoo, multilib changes made to pam ebuild, which results in pam ebuild downgrade. Funtoo has this package forked and it's not yet ported to newer multilib. Before that, it is strongly recommended to NOT let portage downgrade this package, otherwise system may stuck, freeze on loging or uncertain, permission related issues observed. TO avoid pam downgrade, during usual auDN arguments add -exclude argument, so it will look like this

    # emerge -auDN @world --exclude pam.

This will be reported on bugs.funtoo.org and fixed.
