  1. please, open report on bugs.funtoo.org. Funtoo has eix pkg forked and we would need to backport, or even update eix.
  2. please, add emerge --info , package.mask, package.unmask in /etc/portage, /etc/make.conf.
  3. from my experience, when "weird or undefined" issues appears during portage tree updates, it's good to wait until next update :)
  4. No, it's very much alive and blooming. Could you, please provide more info about no updates. i.e give emerge update output?
  5. Funtoo maintains a forked grub, which has no grub2-mkconfig and offer boot-update as an alternative
  6. please, open report on bugs.funtoo.org. Does it fail with LINGUAS="en" set in /etc/portage/make.conf
  7. donjames, are you using XFS and do you have hard drive >=2TB in size?
  8. yes, that's sad true, it's literally takes all time to fix broken things here and there. I don't remember a single day without fixing something. not FUN :(
  9. some modules should be rebuilt on it's own, due to portage's sub-slotting feature, perl-cleaner --modules (or perl-cleaner --all) required. emerge @preserved-rebuild also required.
  10. how is your box connected to router
  11. Reference for 4.8.3 release bug fixes: https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?bug_status=RESOLVED&resolution=FIXED&target_milestone=4.8.3
  12. -fstack-protector option enabled only in 4.8.3 (and above) gcc versions, currently not available in Funtoo. I'm not hardened specialist and cannot tell if this now forced for hardened kernel and profile i'd like to have 4.8.3 gcc ebuild updated, it has some important fixes. This should be reported on bugs.funtoo.org, addressed to drobbins. Refrence: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/gentoo/dev/288243
  13. no, there will be no news, that's a regular fix coming with emerge --sync but it's covered in https://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-1336 bugtracker is where we trying to record every abnormal things observed.
  14. libquvi and lua-5.2 quirks should be fixed with next tree update. Funtoo had libquvi ebuild forked and it missed important changes
  15. there're some controversial points in your post. There is no absolute guarantee about ebuilds and stability and dependencies. Sometime ebuilds and updates breaks things, sometimes it's clean. Funtoo trying to break this in various ways. Biggest and most important divergence from Gentoo, is that Funtoo is a user-oriented and user-driven distro. Unlike Gentoo, where most works looks like hobbiyst, hackery and so on ---no rationale, no QA (quality assurance), no production ideas, just make it run over the stream, fix just to fix, lack of strong leadership and centralized idea. 1. We would need to get details about "unbootable" It happens, when misconfigured system 2. We support all users who would like merge their ebuilds into portage tree 3. Ebuild is the tool to control, install software in the way developer want (and it shouldn't harm USERS at first) that's major achievement in package managent 4. Yes, unfortunately this problem persist.
  16. i'm back now, so we wll track the issues. these are https://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-1327 https://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-1340
  17. we will fix this, there is some delay on my side, sorry.
  18. it's up and working, was a problem on thier end.
  19. looks like a problem on their end, we'll look into it, thx for catching the issue
  20. according to screenshot: kernel panic caused by drm KMS module. also, in logs ext4 spitting errors. 1. boot sysrescue cd and run fsck on that disk. 2. maybe good idea to hunt for some bad sectors, drive errors, etc. 3. try to downgrade to LTS kernel releases to fix DRM issues.
  21. other than that cause could be a very broad: hardware problems, driver problems
  22. could you, please, provide dmesg, logs, possibly a screenshot (screen photo) of boot failure
  23. this should be fixed with next tree update.
