  1. I'm not satisfied for the presence of debian-source in Funtoo.

    # emerge --deselect debian-sources && emerge -C debian-sources

    Then

    # echo "sys-kernel/debian-sources">>/etc/portage/package.mask
    # euse -E experimental -p sys-kernel/gentoo-sources
    # emerge gentoo-sources genkernel
Then open /etc/genkernel.conf if you want to change some parameters. And to set the "MAKEOPTS" variable as n?threads+1; then
    # genkernel --menuconfig all

( at first if you've more then one sys-kernel*-sources, use :

    # eselect kernel list
    # eselect kernel set X

(where X is the number relative at the kernel that You want to compile).

    Ciao :)

     The

    echo "sys-kernel/debian-sources">>/etc/portage/package.mask

     worked for me

  2. woooooooops!!!!! everything gone bad because of a bad chroot procedure, should i erase this topic? or maybe let it there to allow another newbies to see what can happen if the things are done by skipping important parts on the installation?  So i'm asking another thing: the other two packages that are merged with grub2 with

    emerge boot-update

are wrong compilled because of the bad chroot?

  3. In a fresh funtoo installation i have the problem just after compiling and installing a new kernel with its respective better-initrafms ready to work, the next logical step now is to install a boot loader, in this case i'm following the funtoo installation tutorial:

    emerge boot-update

but fails in the part of emerging grub: Failed Patch: 0002-grub-install-support-for-partitioned-partx-loop-devi.patch !

Ii'm attaching the build log here :

Do i need to mask the grub-2.02_beta2-r3? Thanks in advance :)

  6.

Ohil? .... found the command :P

    ci74771ht ~ # qfile /usr/include/GL/glext.h
    media-libs/mesa (/usr/include/GL/glext.h)

    then try to  recompile
    # emerge --oneshot mesa

Then restartyour emerge -DNu world :)

molto grazie amico! you just saved my day, it works. So the problem is solved: my system lacked those packages, so libdc1394 actually needs media-libs/mesa (i don't not know how i removed it from my system)

  7. Hi buddies!  So i decided to update my entire system with [emerge --sync] and then [emerge -auDN world
] but at the time of emerge libdc1394 the process failed. It appears to be a problem with opengl since in the build log the following line can be readed:

/usr/include/GL/gl.h:2055:22: fatal error: GL/glext.h: No such file or directory

    I'm attaching the entire log:

I hope it can be fixed, i've readed this related link: https://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-1212, but i think that the issue is other in this case, i duno what to do. Thanks in advance!

  8. Hi everybody, i need help with the next problem: when i start my funtoo system with Gnome 3 (i use openrc) everything works well except for GDM, it starts in off screen; is initially shown as expected only for a second and a second later it goes to off screen and i have to move the mouse or to hit any key to see anything again. So after moving the mouse GDM is back, but now is shown with the damn screenshield. After this i can remove the screen shield and login so i guess is not a big problem, but i'm tired of that situation every time i power on my computer. Thanks in advance!

Note:-----> this issue is presented as well when the session is closed, so it happens in every session change

  9. hey brother what's up! , i'm a bedroom producer, i have a big interest on pro-audio, and i really want to have bitwig running on my funtoo, could you tell me your procedure to install it??, i already have copied everything of the deb package on it's place, but when i try to launch it it give me this error:

bitwig-studio: symbol lookup error: /opt/bitwig-studio/bin/libx11-windowing-system.so: undefined symbol: xcb_shm_attach_checked

    any suggestion to solve-it??

  10. do 1 thing at a time.  yeah webkit-gtk makes me want to punch babies....  takes my quad core an hour to compile....

    the emerge networkmanager didnt work?

after updating world the things are working better, installing pulse-audio and updating world solved a lot of issues. I already moved to gnome, sound is working in both environments (mate and gnome) the network is working, but i don't see any network icon or applet in gnome... thats is a minor problem i guess. by the way, thankyou so much, your reply helped a lot! (installing webkit-gtk made to murder a little girl...)

  11. you need to emerge -1 networkmanager nm-applet

much past that i suggest you give gnome 3.14 a whirl, its classic modes very gnome 2y.

personally i abandoned ship to xfce4 which has been a strong running light weight desktop for me for YEARS...  i was running xfce before i figured out gnome2 was a viable solution.

gnome 2 / mate / gnome 3 / cinnamon use pulse audio...  i run pulse audio on my xfce4 setup.

thanks!! the reason i don't want to install gnome is because of the package 'net-libs/webkit-gtk' , it takes too long on the compile phase. I already installed pulseaudio (media-sound/pulseaudio) but when i try to launch it , it give me this message:

E: [pulseaudio] core-util.c: Failed to connect to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: no such file or directory

maybe i need to update world...

  12. Hello everybody! after six years using Linux distributions like fedora and sabayon , finally i decided to move to a really serious distro. I was researching on what kind of meta-distro must be installed on my computer and i really really liked the funtoo way for linux since the first time i meet the welcome page in funtoo.org, ,,, anyway, i was wondering on how to install the Mate environment over my new stage 3 tarball and brand new compiled kernel already installed on my hard drive. First i take a look to http://www.funtoo.org/MATE_Desktop, but when i needed to do the following step:

    cp /usr/portage/sets/mate /etc/portage/sets

suddenly the things went very dark... the '/usr/portage/sets/mate' doesn't exist on my installation, i decided to install Mate following the little guide provided by the gentoo wiki (http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/MATE), after that, finally i can run the mate desktop by 'startx' , but to be honest, the desktop really sucks balls, it lack a lot of things that usally i need: doesn't mount any kind of media, doesn't have network manager, there are no sound, even i don't know how to set up the time. So, how to correctly install the Mate environment?? or how to complete the installation of the very minimal 'mate-base/mate' desktop. I really appreciate any information or any help . Thanks!
