  1. So I finally had time to tackle my crossdev. Modest success. :) I can build x86_64-w64-mingw32 (64bit windows). Yeah!!!! :D However, there is other software that I need to grab. There was a suggestion on gentoo pages that emerging with crossdev is possible. I tried the x86_64-w64-mingw32-emerge command and got a non-error response. Cool... However, it informed me that I needed to update. I'm assuming that this is what eselect profiles would take care of in a non-cross-build situation. Problem is that emerging portage will fail with the error about unsatisfied python constraint: The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied: any-of ( python_abis_2.6 python_abis_2.7 python_abis_3.1 python_abis_3.2 python_abis_3.3 python_abis_3.4 python_abis_3.5 python_abis_2.7-pypy python_abis_3.2-pypy ) Suggestions on resolving?
  2. Since SkinBox appears to be a source and not everyone may appreciate skin-choice, any chance the skin can be "user selectable"?
  3. Where does one find the time to play all this coolness... Open Ages of Empires: http://openage.sft.mx/ Don't get me started...I still haven't master 0 A.D. :D
  4. tsymiroro: I vaugely recall Dell laptops sometimes had the odd issue with trackpads etc. I had to google this one... A quick with "linux synaptic DELL Inspiron" found the following url: Ubuntu Bug 1305522 From my experience, Dell's track record with linux tends to be hit/miss. I'm not familiar with Dell laptop models, so I can't say for certain if the driver issue is your problem. Maybe this will point you in the right direction. Good Luck :)
  5. Login. :o Adjust... Find "News and Announcements" Read... ^_^ Absorb... B) B) B) B) Wow....
  6. Everything with the netif.eth0 seems consistent with the Network Install wiki page. You mentioned that using the interface with DHCP worked(no HW issues). The only thing I can think of is that your DNS/DHCP doesn't like the address you're assigning statically. I'm getting the impression the issue is not with your setup but the network you're trying to connect with. Good Luck :)
  7. This is going to be really silly suggestion... But have you done...? rc-update add netif.eth0 default rc-service netif.eth0 start Is the service enabled and started?
  8. shiggitay: do you do the lsmod diff like we talked about on IRC?
  9. 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.1 should not the source be the broadcast address? Maybe post your /etc/conf.d/netif.eth0 file?
  10. I wasn't about to delete them. I was just really curious as to why they were there. Now I know... Thanks, Oleg!
  11. This is probably an absolute [gen|fun]too noob type question, but curiosity gets the best of me. I've noticed these numerous 0-length hidden files in different directories in Funtoo. I'm assuming there related to "baselayout" ebuild. But what exactly is the purpose of these ".keep_sys-apps_baselayout-0" files?
  12. I must have a change on my end between first attempt and looking at the situation on a second box. No worries. Will keep an eye out for the situation. THX
  13. Do you have x11-drivers/xf86-input-synaptics emerged?
  14. Bizarre. I just emerge'd graphviz on my second machine (but not synched first). And I didn't get a fail? On my desktop (where I encountered the error) I was re-emerging with FEATURES=splitdebug, then the error occurred. I'll take another look. If I run into something, I'll post a bug. Thanks, Oleg. Appreciate the feedback.
  15. FL-1894 brought in update of automake to 1.14. This was done just a few days ago. I went to rebuild media-gfx/graphviz to debug an issue in my personal code. I needed to rebuild the graphviz so that I could trace memory leaks with valgrind. Problem was that graphviz (built before) gave no problems but suddenly just stopped on the compile phase complaining that it needed automake-1.13. Since slotting wasn't an issue, I was able to re-emerge automake-1.13. The rebuild of graphviz worked fine. Is this really a bug with ebuilds or upstream where build fails because of a dependency on a specific automake?
  16. This was an extension of FL-1895. Fixed with forced sync. Thank you, Micha?, for fixing.

(dependency required by "media-plugins/gst-plugins-cdparanoia-1.4.5" [ebuild]) My understanding of the wiki page on abi, amd64 was automatically applied. So I'm a little confused about these messages. The last time I messed with abi flags, things didn't go so well. Could someone clarify, please? What flag and where should be set for an AMD64 system.
  18. It can be done... A couple of things to note: - there is no method to alter the eselect arch profile on the command line. You have to edit /etc/portage/make.profile/parent manually. Make sense, sort of. Not something to be changed lightly. - only had to remove /usr/local/lib32 folder (and it was empty). All others were removed with re-emerging. - /etc/ld/so.conf was re-generated so commenting out lib32 probably not necessary. - grub-install and boot-update reported success but I had to pull out SystemRescueCD and chroot in to redo grub-install/boot-update in order to boot. (grub-2.02_beta2-r3,boot-update-1.7.1) So, it works! Summming up updating generic x86_64 to pure64: - make sure your system is up to date. - change your profile (manually edit /etc/portage/make.profile/parent ) - change your make flags (edit /etc/portage/make.conf ) - re-emerge world (emerge -e @world ) - ensure boot loader is set - perl-cleaner --all (not a requirement - but just to be thorough) - re-establish file link: ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/[your time zone] /etc/localzone if going from generic x86_64 to Bulldozer, do all of the above except change the profile.
  19. Yesterday on IRC it was mentioned that there were new details and stage3 binarys for amd64 bulldozer (reference: amd64 bulldozer wiki page). I grabbed the stage 3 for both variants and did a diff. The only appreciable difference was [C|CXX]FLAGS in the make.conf. Seems simple enough... But I also noticed that a Pure64 variant of the bulldozer stage 3 was availble. I cannot forsee any use of a 32bits in my future and putting a stop to 32bit stuff seems ideal to me. I have a hex-core Bulldozer and cpu cycles to burn. Must try... Having already "borked" my system twice and fixed both times without having to re-install, I'm game for an update. A review of the diff I made between generic x86_64 and Pure64 stage3's suggest the manual changes need to be completed: - edit /etc/ld.so.conf and remove references to - /lib32,/usr/lib32,/usr/local/lib32 - edit /etc/portage/make.conf: [C|CXX]FLAGS - "-mtune=generic -O2 -pipe" -> "-march=bdver1 -O2 -pipe" - eselect profile: change "x86-64bit" -> "pure64" - re-emerge world (-e flag) - reboot - manually remove lib32 folders if not already gone. I think that's it... If you don't see me here in awhile you know what happend... ;)

    emake error?

After an explicit downgrade of gcc and re-emerging world no problems of significance similar to above were encountered. I'm having issues masking out gcc-4.9.2-r1 now (emerge keeps wanting to add it back). Not getting errors about the atom using in package.mask. I'll sort that out. Although I understand the reason for change (explained in FL-1832), not sure if r1 improves the situation (it has "issues" and would not recommend). I wish the ABI idea was better explained (wiki page is a rather painful read - I'm missing something).

    I'm thinking you're right. I started doing an emerge -e and got a problem with gstreamer libtool: link: cc -o /var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64/gst/tmp-introspectg4ag2L/.libs/Gst-1.0 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--sort-common -Wl,--as-needed /var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64/gst/tmp-introspectg4ag2L/Gst-1.0.o -Wl,--export-dynamic -pthread -Wl,--export-dynamic -L. ./.libs/libgstreamer-1.0.so -lgio-2.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -pthread ./.libs/libgstreamer-1.0.so: error adding symbols: File in wrong format collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status linking of temporary binary failed: Command '['/bin/sh', '../libtool', '--mode=link', '--tag=CC', 'cc', '-o', '/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64/gst/tmp-introspectg4ag2L/Gst-1.0', '-export-dynamic', '-mtune=generic', '-O2', '-pipe', '-Wl,-O1', '-Wl,--sort-common', '-Wl,--as-needed', '/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64/gst/tmp-introspectg4ag2L/Gst-1.0.o', '-L.', 'libgstreamer-1.0.la', '-lgio-2.0', '-Wl,--export-dynamic', '-lgobject-2.0', '-lgmodule-2.0', '-pthread', '-lglib-2.0']' returned non-zero exit status 1 make[4]: *** [Gst-1.0.gir] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64/gst' make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64/gst' make[2]: *** [all] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64/gst' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64' make: *** [all] Error 2 * ERROR: media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3 failed (compile phase): * emake failed * * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3'`, * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3'`. * The complete build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/temp/build.log'. * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/temp/environment'. * Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3-abi_x86_64.amd64' * S: '/var/tmp/portage/media-libs/gstreamer-1.4.3/work/gstreamer-1.4.3' So, I've masked out gcc-4.9.2-r1. Supporting Files added. Ever since gcc was updated to 4.9.2-r1, I've been running into strange things like this. emake error?

During emerge update, I'm getting two packages that are being difficult: app-accessibility/at-spi2-core-2.14.1 x11-libs/vte-0.38.2 VTE error libtool: link: cc -o /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/vte-0.38.2/work/vte-0.38.2/src/tmp-introspectrOYK8l/.libs/Vte-2.91 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--sort-common /var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/vte-0.38.2/work/vte-0.38.2/src/tmp-introspectrOYK8l/Vte-2.91.o -Wl,--export-dynamic -pthread -Wl,--export-dynamic -Wl,--as-needed -L. ./.libs/libvte-2.91.so -lgtk-3 -lgdk-3 -lpangocairo-1.0 -lpango-1.0 -latk-1.0 -lcairo-gobject -lcairo -lgdk_pixbuf-2.0 -lutil -lm -lgio-2.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -pthread ./.libs/libvte-2.91.so: error adding symbols: File in wrong format collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status at-spi error libtool: link: cc -o /var/tmp/portage/app-accessibility/at-spi2-core-2.14.1/work/at-spi2-core-2.14.1-abi_x86_64.amd64/atspi/tmp-introspect2n6iau/.libs/Atspi-2.0 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -Werror-implicit-function-declaration -Wl,-O1 -Wl,--sort-common -Wl,--as-needed /var/tmp/portage/app-accessibility/at-spi2-core-2.14.1/work/at-spi2-core-2.14.1-abi_x86_64.amd64/atspi/tmp-introspect2n6iau/Atspi-2.0.o -Wl,--export-dynamic -pthread -Wl,--export-dynamic -L. ./.libs/libatspi.so ../dbind/.libs/libdbind.a -lgio-2.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -lglib-2.0 -ldbus-1 -pthread ./.libs/libatspi.so: error adding symbols: File in wrong format collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status Both will have emerge report that emake failed during the compile phase. Is this a bug? Problem with the ebuild? ABI? Or my settings? I'm not sure where to start on this one.
