  2. This is odd, but for the previously working other machine going back in time, I had to really go back before I could find a snapshot where X would work. Here are the differences: Working epro show has mix-in set to xfce whereas failing one has nothing for the mix-in. Working epro doesn't have an X-kit whereas the failing one has xorg-kit = 1.19-prime. Make.conf seems to be the same, indicating VIDEO_CARDS="intel vmware" (this machine runs under VMWare.) 6. That worked. Thanks. Ego sync should have some mechanism in place to run that command internally should it again fail in this way. It should probably also check and correct any permission mismatches.

  8. I made the script before the fix you just described was put in. But running ego sync by itself just results in the same error. How do I fix this new problem? Syncing meta-repo error: Pulling is not possible because you have unmerged files. hint: Fix them up in the work tree, and then use 'git add/rm <file>' hint: as appropriate to mark resolution and make a commit. fatal: Exiting because of an unresolved conflict. There was an error syncing meta-repo.
  9. I always run this fix prior to doing an ego sync.
  10. I now have a similar problem Auto-merging README.rst CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in README.rst Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result. There was an error syncing meta-repo.

  13. Couldn't ego sync be programmed to do this automatically should it encounter this state?

It is stable. What exactly do you mean by a "reinstall"? Do you mean reformatting the disk and starting entirely from scratch? Wouldn't it be possible to simply change the build to whatever it should be and re-emering world?
  15. How do I fix this? Syncing meta-repo error: You have not concluded your merge (MERGE_HEAD exists). hint: Please, commit your changes before merging. fatal: Exiting because of unfinished merge. There was an error syncing meta-repo.

    I think I resolved this by cheating. My machine is virtual so I reverted to a snapshot before I made any changes then proceeded to start over, starting with the instructions at https://github.com/funtoo/meta-repo. I then added the following: dev-python/appi python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/mwparserfromhell python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/requests python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/cryptography python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/pyasn1 python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/pyopenssl python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/ply python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/py python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/pycparser python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/idna python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/ndg-httpsclient python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/urllib3 python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/chardet python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/PySocks python_targets_python3_4 dev-python/cffi python_targets_python3_4 virtual/python-ipaddress python_targets_python3_4 app-admin/ego python_single_target_python3_4 python_targets_python3_4 I still have to re-emerge world to make sure everything is good, but I did manage to get ego installed and it's syncing.
