If we are talking about backup app I dont care what its will be. My goal is to make start point of my fresh funtoo instalation(doing everthing again is suicide :) ). I was trying kbackup (after finish copying files he was finishing for few hours (teoretycy he was comperssing so I left it for night but it didnt finish so I cancel it and everything was gone), then obnam - I didnt see he was finish - just stop in some moment :/. Im ready to try all available apps to make my start point. If u guys can advise me simple automatic(perfect I would be if I dont have to choose folderst to dont miss something important) backup app to make my start point I will be grateful. I was thinking about mondorescue or filezilla but I have windows and funtoo lvm encrypted system on 1.8TB disk - can I make a live dvd with it?

Please, tell us if solved or not :)

    Hello :)

I hope that what I write may be understandable; if by chance I say something you do not understand .... say so quietly. Also you can take a look to man emerge man portage man make.conf ____________________________ There is Also the irc channel on "Freenode" #funtoo ______________________________ For bugs: bugs.funtoo.org   __________________________________________________________________   This may be be utile. in the case You use kde/plasma-5   echo "=dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.8.6-r1 -gstreamer">>/etc/portage/package.use   However there is another thing: In Your make.conf you have ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" But in emerge --info compares ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64". You must choice from "stable" (amd64) or "current (amd64 ~amd64). So that i'd like to know your ego profile show and know wath you really want. :)

Sandro got a reaction from kitapenas in building Firefox fails at configure step
    # eselect python set 3 # env-update && . /etc/profile # python-updater # perl-cleaner --modules # revdep-rebuild # emerge -DNu world --with-bdeps=y # emerge -c # emerge firefox Try that way .... if You want _'_

If this method doesn't run, post your
    cat /var/lib/portage/world
    cat /etc/portage/make.conf
If the portage requires "emerge @preserved-rebuild", simply make:
    # emerge @preserved-rebuild

sandro, i think you are missing the point on pstate driver.

when i use i7z, it may show frequency maxed out at 3.9GHz, but c1 state shows 97 percent of processor is in halt state.

    isn't that power saving?

for a long time i had microcode enabled in kernel and would see in dmesg something about microcode driver.

i assumed it was working but there is more too it.

i use git-sources. i use method two from this page

Sandro reacted to Sandro in Plasma-5: is better "GLX" or "EGL" ?
Hi to all; I've 2 systems:
    1) PC Desktop with cpu intel 4771, nVidia GTX 660, 16 GiB ram.
    2) An old laptop "Acer" con cpu Athlon 64x2 @ 1,9 GHz, Radeon HD 3200, 3 GiB Ram.

With PC "1" i use plasma-5 without troubles with "GLX" with nvidia-drivers.

With the laptop, using "glx" i've graphical errors; instead if I use "egl" all seems to work fine.

But ... what is the best choiche ?

    "glx" or "egl" ?

    Thanx for answers :)

Martin considered EGL as the default, see https://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2015/08/should-we-target-egl-as-the-default/. I don't think it is easy to say which is the best choice, only for you it is clear cut since the graphics error answer  that ;)

Excuse me for third post .....

I've used boinc (that for me is the software which for me it is the most resource-hungry and also it raises more than anything else the temperatures of the cores) to test the 2 situations:

    1) with Intel P-state enabled in kernel , with MATE DE, I obtain ~4300 for Weathston (fpu) per core and only ~ 10500 in Integer (Drystone). :o
    2) Without Intel P-state fpu (Whetstone) is similar, but in integer (Dhrystone) is near 15000 MIPS per core

Then for this moment the choice is to use cpupower without P-state driver.

But that discussion is ever opened ..... Who knows what will happen in the future ?

Hi to All & great Dear whiteghost :)

I have an Intel i7-4770K and I use the kernel CPU Frequency scaling options without pstates and it works fine.  I set the default governor to "ondemand" in the kernel.  Each core then idles at 800MHz and scales up as needed.

I have cpupower installed on my system, but don't really need it as the kernel settings do what I desire.

i added cpupower to default runlevel with this line in conf.d
     START_OPTS="--governor powersave -d 1000MHz -u 2000MHz"
    and it works.

    Every 5.0s: cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep "MHz"                                                                      Fri Jul 15 18:43:12 2016

    cpu MHz         : 3899.902
    cpu MHz         : 3900.329
    cpu MHz         : 3899.902
    cpu MHz         : 3900.115

    look at documentation - /usr/src/linux/Documentation/cpu-freq/

i disable acpi driver enable pstate and powersave gov and pstate works automatically.  googling pstate - it gets too technical for me.
i use cpupower frequency info and cpupower frequency set
