@pytony Thanks for the official patch!  I installed appi-0.1.9999 (post-0.1.6, pre-0.1.7), and everything worked out of the box (without additional patching), so I would call that a fix!
Also, in case it wasn't evident to others on this thread, I'm using Python 3.4 at the moment, so it absolutely can work with Python 3.4.

It looks like you have your /etc/portage/repos.conf symlinked to /var/git/meta-repo/repos.conf.
    try:
    rm /etc/portage/repos.conf rm /var/git/meta-repo/repos.conf/funtoo mkdir /etc/portage/repos.conf/ ln -s /var/git/meta-repo/repos.conf /etc/portage/repos.conf/funtoo for f in /var/git/meta-repo/repos.conf/*.conf; do mv "$f" /etc/portage/repos.conf/; done

`epro update` updates the contents of the file `/etc/portage/make.profile/parent`. This file contains profiles that determine default useflags, masks, make.conf, ... These profiles depend on the python-kit branch you use and profiles you set with epro.
`epro update` is indeed missing from documentation. You can file an issue on Jira about it.

How about something similar to this one.. pacman eats the gentoo logo and becomes the fun version of it? ;)

Not sure what  all is old in funtoo means.
I know some of the core system packages are older by design, and that is what will help make your funtoo stable.
While the rest of the packages are pulled from the ~gentoo arch, so should be the same.
While some packages are forked to keep a better working older version or some are simply masked as being broken.
And of course you have overlays available and other avenues to get newer packages.
One way is to put in a package request on https://bugs. funtoo.org/ if it is possible to do so without breaking things for others, is a very good chance will be done.
I do not know your experience with gentoo / funtoo, I honestly think a good comparison is to use both.
At one time I had several machines all on gentoo, and I loved it. I had several friends that had switched to funtoo, I really had no plans to change.
One day I finally did give funtoo a try, and within 6 months I switched everything from gentoo to funtoo. I am very happy I did finally make the change.
But using gentoo for some time, I noticed the differences between the two, and how much time funtoo had saved me from fixing broken packages.
I liked that it had some older packages.

To be fair though, you should do a clean install with any distro to try it out and compare it with others. I am a big fan of, use the distro that works best for you.
I still use windows on my htpc because of netflix. This is no longer needed, but at the time, it was the best os for the job.
Just want to be clear, if you think gentoo works best for you, then by all means use gentoo.
But if you just have some problems with a few out dated packages, there are ways to fix that.

This is an issue in the ebuild. I think it should explicitely depend on gtk+[introspection], which is not the case, but I'm not quite sure.

i've been a member of several online communities & forums.  some of them had threads about sharing stuff...  i dont have money to ship stuff but i could gather it up...  i know some people need hardware, and i have several old computers i could give away that may be better than what people have.  anyone else interested in this idea?

i have several sound blasters, an old logitech webcam i could give away, some pc cases i could give away, some pc speakers that are missing the subwoffer, a bricked linksys router....  im not sure how this would be setup, it would probably have to be a "taker pays shipping" setup since its not exactly small items all the time.

The "too" part of this logo makes me think about a mask and a snorkel. Maybe we could find something cool fun with this to draw a square logo.

Whatever the logo I think it is important it can be "iconified" (ie. recognizable in a small square). I don't think we can shrink or crop any of the suggested logo so that when you see it in an icon you can say "Yeah this is the same, this is funtoo".

I also think that before trying to design a logo, we should find the values we want to highlight and instill through the logo. To me, funtoo is kind of a gentoo (the fastest penguin) but with fun too. So theses are the values I would highlight

fun and flexible (in contrast to straight): curves rather than straitght lines and angles light and fast (gentoo): colors that evoke something fresh or smooth I imagine a penguin sliding very fast on the belly or on skis. I think roughly the shape of the left penguin on the following picture would make a perfect logo.

    To me, this is funtoo.

pytony reacted to j-g- in Development - Test process / how to test?
So far my experience has been, you can use /usr/local/portage, or an overlay of your own, I would recommend the overlay, since you can make changes to it as normal user. there's an skeleton overlay uploaded for funtoo in github, you can start from that.

Make the directory structure for the package you wan to test in your overlay dir:

$ mkdir -p ${OVERLAY_DIR}/cat/pkg/ # Edit your ebuild: $ $EDITOR ${OVERLAY_DIR}/cat/pkg/pkg-0.0.ebuild # generate a Manifest $ ebuild ${OVERLAY_DIR}/cat/pkg/pkg-0.0.ebuild manifest Add your overlay via making a overlay.xml file in /etc/layman/overlays/ (this is documented in the layman manual) or adding to your make.conf
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="${PORTDIR_OVERLAY} $YOUR_OVERLAY_DIR" If you don't have the package installed already or are adding new dependencies you can do:
$ sudo emerge --onlydeps '=cat/pkg-0.0' and then you can test your ebuild step by step using the 'ebuild' command, I try before merging anything I edit, generating a package, this means all the build process is made except actually getting the package in your filesystem, you can inspect the tarball generated to see everything looks right and then merge.
$ sudo ebuild ${OVERLAY_DIR}/cat/pkg/pkg-0.0.ebuild package That said you should read first and mainly refer to the gentoo dev documentation.[1] or 'emerge -av devmanual'
