  1. 666threesixes666's post in kdbus in gentoo-sources local use flags; what is this new feature ? was marked as the answer
    kdbus is for systemd...  its a kernel space dbus implementation instead of pure userspace.  =)
  2. 666threesixes666's post in blocked packages system update was marked as the answer
    hi friend....  so lets pull out the relevant info....
    Total: 20 packages (2 upgrades, 18 new, 5 uninstalls), Size of downloads: 20 kB Conflict: 28 blocks (28 unsatisfied) !!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled !!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict: dev-libs/nettle:0 (dev-libs/nettle-3.1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by (no parents that aren't satisfied by other packages in this slot) (dev-libs/nettle-2.7.1-r4::gentoo, installed) pulled in by <dev-libs/nettle-3[gmp,abi_x86_32(-)?,abi_x86_64(-)?,abi_x86_x32(-)?,abi_mips_n32(-)?,abi_mips_n64(-)?,abi_mips_o32(-)?,abi_ppc_32(-)?,abi_ppc_64(-)?,abi_s390_32(-)?,abi_s390_64(-)?] required by (net-libs/gnutls-3.3.15::gentoo, installed) 28 blocks WOW something bads going on with your system.....  what abi is your system?  x86_64?  nettle 3.1 and nettle 2.7 are having a battle....

    you basically have 2 options...  remove the blocking packages, or masking the package that is conflicting with your existing system....  both options have perils... though the second option can cause more blockers if it's being pulled in by another package.

    required by (net-libs/gnutls-3.3.15::gentoo, installed)

    soooo i would try masking nettle 3.1 to avert the whole ugly nightmare.  i actually have nettle 2.7 and am being suggested update to 3.1 so ill try to reproduce this.
  3. 666threesixes666's post in SSD installation with F2FS was marked as the answer
    you're installing the dependencies to the live distro temporarily.  debian doesn't have jfs in it's live media so that requires apt-getting jfs to deal with the file system & mount the file system that was previously not supported.  id use synaptic to insert the deps since i dont know apt-get's command line tools very well.
  4. 666threesixes666's post in prevent debian-sources from merged was marked as the answer
    "Important
    Right now, the -1 option is required to not add our @kernel set to world-sets. This allows you to emerge it independently from @world. If you forget to use this option, edit /var/lib/portage/world-sets and remove the @kernel line. This will prevent kernel updates from being included in @world updates."

    anyways /var/lib/portage/world needs any sys-kernel lines removed to not fetch kernels at world updates ;-)
  5. 666threesixes666's post in Downgrading Nvidia drivers was marked as the answer
    you mask the build that's running and newer then emerge the package....

    ex:
    echo ">=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-349.12" >> /etc/portage/package.mask
    emerge nvidia-drivers

    you would get nvidia-drivers-346.47  ;-)
  6. 666threesixes666's post in Which optimized stage3 should i use? was marked as the answer
    that's a windows limitation, not a linux limitation.  64 stage3 will run better than 32, though your machine can do both.
  7. 666threesixes666's post in No Modules After Install was marked as the answer
    lol now to really rub it in.....  (you could of just ran "make modules_install" and rebooted) LOL i always run them as blocks....  so its line 1...  then line 2....  then line 3....  then line 4....  then line 5.  you'll remember it better in the future by such a painful rebuilding experience.
  8. 666threesixes666's post in HELP!! How to correctly install the Mate environment?? was marked as the answer
    you need to emerge -1 networkmanager nm-applet

    much past that i suggest you give gnome 3.14 a whirl, its classic modes very gnome 2y.

    personally i abandoned ship to xfce4 which has been a strong running light weight desktop for me for YEARS...  i was running xfce before i figured out gnome2 was a viable solution.

    gnome 2 / mate / gnome 3 / cinnamon use pulse audio...  i run pulse audio on my xfce4 setup.
