sputnik's post in i build a kernel from source but need help was marked as the answer
What's wrong with this picture?
I don't know how you could have gotten a "menu entry" for the "new kernel", boot-update CANNOT find an entry in boot.conf to match a kernel called vmlinuz-4.2.0-gentoo-r1, so it doesn't know what to do with it.
Ditto.

The only thing that grabs me is you don't want NetworkManager and dhcpcd both. If you're using NetworkManager delete dhcpcd from rc. Otherwise more or less what I have, don't know about the busybox stuff, did you add that? I don't have it. Here's mine:
# rc-update NetworkManager | default acpid | default alsasound | boot autofs | default bluetooth | default bootmisc | boot chronyd | default consolekit | default cups-browsed | default cupsd | default dbus | default devfs | sysinit device-mapper | boot distccd | default dmesg | sysinit fcron | default fsck | boot fuse | default gpm | default hddtemp | default hdparm | default hostname | boot hwclock | boot ip6tables | default ipset | default iptables | default keymaps | boot killprocs | shutdown kmod-static-nodes | sysinit lm_sensors | default local | default localmount | boot lvm | boot metalog | default microcode_ctl | boot modules | boot mount-ro | shutdown mtab | boot netif.lo | sysinit netmount | default nfs | default nfsmount | default openvpn.client | default postfix | default preload | default procfs | boot qemu-binfmt | default root | boot samba | default savecache | shutdown sshd | default swap | boot swapfiles | boot sysctl | boot sysfs | sysinit termencoding | boot tmpfiles.dev | sysinit tmpfiles.setup | boot udev | sysinit udev-mount | sysinit udev-postmount | boot default urandom | boot xdm | default -
sputnik's post in /etc/hosts is overwritten was marked as the answer
Well that seems to be the magic. Just cleaned out my hosts file, commented out all those aliases in /etc/conf.d/hostname, reboot, and perfect. Indeed those warnings in the host were leftover from before, not there on this write.
Hopefully we'll get a new bug feature to keep us entertained soon.
Once again you've helped me so I didn't have to use my brain. Thank you.

sputnik's post in Cannot eselect java-nsplugin to a later slot/version (dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin) was marked as the answer
Yeah, it's a bit cryptic. It wants it like this
eselect java-nsplugin set 64bit blah Blah being the name or number of what you want to use.

sputnik's post in boot-update issue was marked as the answer
I don't use luks, but I'm guessing it's the fstab it's having trouble with, have you considered using UUID's or labels? Most recommend that anyway.
I do use LVM but in fstab I use labels.

sputnik's post in Troubles with "google-talkplugin" was marked as the answer
It seems the answer is today I got an update (and of course, had to update package.license as well) for googletalk plugin, it's now at 5.4.2.0. So possibly in the transition the old version wasn't available, I recommend trying today. Your accept license = "*" should be good for everything.
Also, ahem, it could be handy to use a U.S. proxy address.

sputnik's post in Coexistence of Python 2 and 3 was marked as the answer
I have those flags, but as drobbins says, I believe they are only a gentoo thing, not needed here and I should remove them. But zero issues because of them.
I think it's likely you need to do python-updater, painless and at the very least you'll rule out any problem there.
