Network driver module error booting fresh install
tefrem34 replied to tefrem34's question in Installation Help
Thank you for the help jhan. I was able to figure it out partially by making the 8169 built in and not as a module. However, I have some other issues with the wifi driver and have started all over from scratch. I thought that I would have an easier time with funtoo, but it has not been the case. It was worth a go on this laptop. Thanks!! -
Network driver module error booting fresh install
tefrem34 replied to tefrem34's question in Installation Help
Looking in the dir "/usr/src/linux/drivers/net/ethernet/realtek" shows r8169.o ahd 8139cp.x. So I am not really sure if that is the module version or not. -
Network driver module error booting fresh install
tefrem34 replied to tefrem34's question in Installation Help
I have the sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.40.20, sys-kernel/debian-sources-4.19.9, and sys-kernel/debian-sources-lts-4.9.130 installed. And using debian-sources-4.19.9 I am not sure which one it is using, when I looked into the kernel config it had everything as a module. I do not know the command on how to look that up. Thanks -
Network driver module error booting fresh install
tefrem34 replied to tefrem34's question in Installation Help
I need to clarify that the boot process gets stuck with the the above error. If I unplug the ethernet cable it starts to run again but comes back with the same error and will not progress any further. -
Network driver module error booting fresh install
tefrem34 replied to tefrem34's question in Installation Help
I used the two card numbers to look them up in the kernel and they both were enabled. -
I have a new install of funtoo on my HP dv700 laptop and for some reason I am having troubles with funtoo not loading the correct drivers/modules for my network card. I have checked that I have the network card enabled in the kernel. So I am wondering if I have a conflict of modules on boot. "ModeManages[3104]: <info> Couldn't check support for device '/sys/devices/pci10000:00:04.0/0000:01:00.0' : not supported by any plugin" I would very much appreciate the help. Thank you.

@cardinal Thank you much. That worked.

Okay. I ran genkernel and "ego-sync", then reinstall grub, with no errors, fallowed by "boot-update", and now I only have one error: * WARN: Image for section memtest86+ not found - /memtest86.bin So I guess that makes it a little easier.
-
Hello, I am back at it again. I have not been able to get grub to boot for me. I reinstalled grub and made sure that I changed my grub.cfg to show the "genkernel". However, when I run "boot-update" I get these errors: # boot-update boot-update 1.8.2 / Copyright 2009-2017 Funtoo Technologies [use option "-l" for license info, "-h" for help] * Generating config for grub... * NOTE: Detected UEFI boot. Configuring for UEFI booting. * WARN: Image for section memtest86+ not found - /memtest86.bin * WARN: No boot/default match found - using first boot entry by default. * NOTE: Intel microcode will be loaded at boot-time. * Completed successfully with warnings. I have installed "sys-apps/memtest86+" and I still get the errors. I thank you for the help.

tefrem34 replied to tefrem34's question in Installation Help
@jhan Yes I did. I was even in the distfile's dir when I "emerge -av os-prober" and it still gave the repeating 404 message. @palica Thank you. I will switch to the core-kit=1.2-prime and see if I can get os-pro All is good now.ber installed. -

It is still giving me the same message. IIt does not seem like it is building from that dir. -
[Solved]New Install sys-boot/os-prober 404
tefrem34 replied to tefrem34's question in Installation Help
Thanks for the info. Is there an alternative? I have other Linux partitions that I need to boot into. -
Hello, I am trying to install Funtoo and have been having a tone of blocks, and desided to start fresh and os-prober has been a reacuring ofender. Is there a font that is preferred for the logos and wallpapers?

I am doing some sketches for a mascot of a honey badger. A honey badger might be a good candidate. What do you think?

That was the issue. Thank you!! Is there a way to delete the other account I made with the wrong email?
-
Hello, For some reason I can not use the uername or password from the forums for Funtoo on the bug reporting page. I keep getting an incorrect username or password message. I even tried to make another account, but now that I looked at it again, I misspelled the email address. Thanks
-
I still can not sign into funtoo bug reporter. I have even created another account and it still says my user/passwd is incorrect.

Thank you so much!! :) That was the ticket. You are a life saver, well at least sanity :).

Yes, that is what it said. >>> Downloading 'https://dev.gentoo.org/~tove/distfiles/dev-perl/LWP-Protocol-https/LWP-Protocol-https_ca-cert-r1.patch.gz' --2017-11-14 15:26:41-- https://dev.gentoo.org/~tove/distfiles/dev-perl/LWP-Protocol-https/LWP-Protocol-https_ca-cert-r1.patch.gz Resolving dev.gentoo.org... 2001:470:ea4a:1:5054:ff:fec7:86e4, 140.211.166.183 Connecting to dev.gentoo.org|2001:470:ea4a:1:5054:ff:fec7:86e4|:443... connected. It is strange that it will not install for me and it worked for you. It looks like it is the same version "dev-perl/LWP-Protocol-https-6.60.0::perl-kit". I am going to try to log into the funtoo bug and report these two issues. I appreciate your help. :)

@cafaia Thanks for the response. I forgot about being able to mask the version and thank you for the link to the source and the dir to where to put it. I am going to give this a go. I can't seem to log into the bugs.funtoo it says to use my log in for the funtoo forums but it tells me the usr/paswd is wrong. Masking the broken version worked a treat. Okay, so I downloaded the LWP-Protocol-https- tar.gz and put it in the dir you said to. I did and "emerge -avuND @world" but it is still using the broken one. How do I get it to install from the "/var/cashe/portage/distfiles/"?
-
@More_Piffle With the mkdir /mnt/funtoo, you are making a dir on the live disk so you can mount the directories that are on your root partition "/dev/sdb3." Then when you "mount /dev/sdb3 /mnt/funtoo" you will then have access to the files that you need to edit in "/etc/conf.d/xdm". Thus you are not making another dir on your installation /dev/sdb3. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Chroot This video should be helpful as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrJvqdD4Kkg

Hello to the forum and funtoo devs. I just started using funtoo and am still learning how it all works. But I am having troubles updating my system because of two ebuilds and installing mypaint. These two keep failing on the build (broken): dev-libs/appstream de-perl/LWP-Protocol-https The LWP-Protocol-https gives a message 404 error, not found. I had pasted the error in the list, but for some reason it didn't stay. and mypaint has this loop I can not get past: media-gfx/mypaint >>> media-gfx/mypaint-1.2.1:0/0::media-kit, ebuild scheduled for merge, wants dev-libs/protobuf[python] >>> dev-qt/qtwebengine-5.9.2:5/5.9::kde-kit, installed, wants dev-libs/protobuf:0/14= >>> dev-python/protobuf-python-3.4.1:0/14::python-kit, ebuild scheduled for merge, wants ~dev-libs/protobuf-3.4.1 My candidates are: >>> dev-libs/protobuf-3.3.0:0/13::dev-kit, ebuild scheduled for merge has SLOT 0/13 >>> dev-libs/protobuf-3.4.1:0/14::dev-kit, installed has SLOT 0/14 So I am still not sure if I need to do, change the versions or what not, so I can finish getting my system built. Thanks
