Hi guys!

I'm having an issue while trying to connect my android phone to my computer via USB.

I can see that gnome can detect it (screenshot 1), but when I click I got an error (screenshot 2).

The only error message I can see in the logs is:

	"kernel: traps: gvfsd-mtp[5886] trap int3 ip:7fa87a562e47 sp:7fff1b065900 error:0 in libglib-2.0.so.0.7000.0[7fa87a525000+8b000]"

Has someone already face this issue before?

	Thanks!
Best Regards!

I am running the Next version of Funtoo (I followed the guide recently given). Previously, I was also

If I uninstall xf86-video-vmware or just move the driver file to a different name, the X11 starts up and uses the modeset driver and seems to work ok.

Because I can get it to work with modeset, this is really a minor issue but it bugs me that I can't use the vmware driver. I've searched several times for hints on how to fix this but I am at a loss.

I've tried various kernel versions (4.19.2-gentoo, 4.20.0-gentoo, 4.9.168_p1 from debian LTS and 5.0.0-pf2) and I've played around with USE flags to the point that I don't remember everything I have done.

In addition, I followed an article I found on how to get a good stacktrace so my system is currently built with the FEATURES="splitdebug" variable set in make.conf.

So I've got a full gdb backtrace also which I will post at the end.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am definitely in over my head on this problem. Again, it's a minor issue.

Hi, I just set up Funtoo with the GNOME tarball. I've been able to get almost everything working, but I can't get any output on my laptop's speakers when headphones aren't plugged in. (It works as expected when headphones are plugged in, however.) I don't really know where to start; I'm a somewhat experienced Linux user but usually audio "just works." Here's my alsa-info.sh output if it helps in assisting me: http://alsa-project.org/db/?f=733b9dd5e484869c31ad78008960dfb2e80610b3

Does exist a good alternative to nvidia GPUs?

Let me explain myself... I have seen so many posts for x or y GNU/Linux distribution complaining about issues -specially on distro upgrade- due to usage of nvidia GPUs, that I asked myself if there is another manufacturer of "friendly" good GPUs which provides drivers that brings the best of hardware with no software pain.

I guess gamers could easily comment on my concern. I am widely ignorant on games.

Some time ago I got new hardware for my desktop, to replace what I currently run. Asus B450 Prime mainboard, AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (non-X!) and 2x 8GB RAM from Transend. For video I used an old nVidia GT710 card, as I won't be doing anything fancy like gaming on the machine anyway. I managed to get a base Funtoo system installed, eventually, using the first gen Zen stage3. But when expanding the install to a full desktop I got all kinds of issues. Following the install guides on the Funtoo Wiki I got Xorg and Mate to install. When I rebooted, I couldn't log in, despite setting Lightdm to auto-login of my user (I'm the only one using it) Eventually I booted into a sysrescuecd again as I couldn't get a single-user boot from the Grub menu (it's not provided OOTB and any editing of the Grub menu failed to get a root shell either) and purged everything Mate and Xorg. So, that's where I am now, although I did manage to install Devuan on the same machine (different SSD) successfully, including Mate, in the mean time.

One particular error I got today was a missing opencl-headers package. Syncing the tree didn't help, it's not there.

Goes w/o saying that this is very frustrating, having used Funtoo in the past I really want this to work and I'm still trying to get this done for 6+ weeks now.

Note, I really do appreciate all the work the dev's put in, free of charge, but (installing) Funtoo is more complicated then it should be. IMO.

	Hello, I have a crypted /home (/dev/mapper/lvm-home) inside lvm, and a keyfile on /boot (/dev/sda1): /boot/keyfile

Why: On normal days, it boot automatically, but on vacations/trips I delet the /boot/keyfile and people can't access.

	On ArchLinux it worked with:

	[ /etc/default/grub ]

	GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="cryptdevice=/dev/mapper/lvm-home:home cryptkey=/dev/sda1:ext4:/.boot root=/dev/mapper/lvm-funtoo dolvm rootfstype=ext4"

	and before: grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

On Funtoo I tried the same and:

	Hi everybody,

when I installed Funtoo on my rather old computer in April, I was running a Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 VGA adapter. I installed the stage 3 Gnome tarball which gave me the 4.19.98_p1-debian-sources-lts kernel. For the old graphics card I had to mask the newer nvidia-drivers; it is supported by the 390.132. No problem so far, everything running smoothly.
Some days ago, I replaced the old VGA adapter with a newer one, a Nvidia GTX 980 Ti. So it came to my mind to do some software updates too. I decided to install the debian-sources 5.9.6_p1, I also did

	and

The new kernel was starting up properly, but the X server did not start because the old nvidia driver was only working up to kernel 5.4. So I unmasked the newer nvidia.drivers and installed version 450.80. There were no errors during the installation. But still the X server does not start, and now I am stuck. This is the Xorg logfile.

"Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module" seems to be the problem. When I looked in dmesg i find nothing that gives me a hint, except this:

[ 1.984255] crc16: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel

But I do not know if this is related to the nvidia kernel module or something else. I have attached the dmesg file to this post. Does anyone have an idea what went wrong? Am I missing something?

	Mm.
