Hi,

I read the news/announcement about 1.4-release retired in 2024 and what @coffnix said.

Encrypted our new installation is a very good advice but first, fixing the encryption at installation couldn't be better before saying that ?

I'm trying since a week to install Funtoo with LVM on LUKS, reading every wiki (three wikis for the same subject ? what ? Oo), asking help on Discord (thanks for the support wolf pack, I appreciate it <3), checking bug reports. Nothing works.

So, I'm a bit upset because we tell me to encrypt my Funtoo but wikis are broken and mix-in encrypted-root too.

For the moment it's a bad experience on Funtoo. And if I still try to fix my installation it's only because I never give up on computer's stuff and the guys helping me on Discord. But when my Funtoo will work, I probably change for Gentoo, which I'm sure is easier to install and use.

I like your philosophy, but that's all. And I'm really sad about that.

Ugh. Google is so bad. For anyone looking for a chromium based browser with independent sync and strong privacy features, I recommend vivaldi.

	Hi fellows,

Some time ago I was forced to abandon Funtoo to Gentoo as the KDE tree fell hopelessly behind. I did not have the time nor the funto-mirroring-know-how to get involved in the matter. I did try to use the ebuilds from Gentoo by that became a dependency nightmare. Quite a lot have changed in Funtoo since then. Recently there has been a general upgrade of the kde-plasma/plasma-meta and KDE was up to date for a while, but are no longer.

Question is, will the status of KDE depend on once in a while heroic efforts or are Funtoo aiming to mirror either Gentoo or KDE trees so that one can depend on the kde-plasma/plasma-meta being reasonable up to date? And if not, are there a strategy or and work going on to get there? Are there any ambitions?

I am not asking for KDE stage 4, but I depend on KDE for my every day work over time.

	Cheers,

	Erik

I'm not familiar with Saybayon but looking through their site it looks like they could bring some valuable contributions to the Funtoo ecosystem. Simple installation and package management could open Funtoo up to a much broader audience.

However, it looks like Saybayon installs systemd by default in their current incarnation. One of the key benefits of Funtoo for me has been that it is not just systemd-free, but openrc exclusive. That ensures that everything on Funtoo functions with openrc and it avoids the convoluted multi-init support documentation we see on Gentoo.

Can we expect to see Funtoo maintain that direction?

This board uses an AM5729 processor which is similar to the DRA752 and AM5728. The main difference with the AM5728 is the added coprocessor that is used for artificial intelligence

I will be creating several ebuilds for support that is missing for this board. I will publish those on my site. I haven't updated my funtoo page yet, when I get time I will put some information there as well.

I'm testing the new 1.4. My test system is an older laptop, MSI GX720, core2duo P8400 with a nvidia GT9600M video card. I started with a blank disk, installed the minimal 1.3 system from the latest stage3 (core2 subarch) and from there proceeded to upgrade to 1.4 as per instructions.

I tried the nvidia driver first (gfxcard_nvidia) but it seems that there's no driver compatible with my video card. So then I switched to gfxcard_nouveau and I get an error emerging mesa-19.1.3. Everything else emerges fine but the last step, mesa, fails.

I'm attaching an archive of logs.

I think the issue is related to the following in build.log:
