Does anyone have any suggestions for this buggy bug? I have let my computer system to be installed Funtoo in one time, and NetworkManager still get installed on my system ( But then because of the kernel panic error that cannot be able to fix in the LiveCD so I decided to reinstalling Funtoo again ). But for this time, this nasty bug appeared suddenly to me, not letting me installling NetworkManager finely. So for now, how do I fix this bug, and continuing my Funtoo installation so that I can boot it again?

	Hello everybody,

forgive me for my doubt, which I think is foolish.

I've been using Funtoo every day for over a year (I used Gentoo before), and I really like this distribution, and I use it in the desktop version using Gnome.

For almost two months I have noticed that there are no more updates on my system.

I run the "ego sync" command and right aftere "emerge -avuDN "@world". All branches appear to be updated, but I find it strange that in almost two months no package needs updating.

Sorry for the doubt, but I don't know if everything is actually ok, or I need to change something in my desktop configuration.

	Grateful,

	Duca.

	Hi!

I have just succeeded, with much help from the friends in Discord to finish a new install from

stage3-intel64-westmere-next-2023-07-11.tar.xz, and got XFCE, firefox-bin, VLC,, Openshot, OBS-Studio,AbiWord, Libreoffice, Pulse and pavu, and several other to start nicely.

I have not yet tested how some of them - which i use seldom - are functioning, but overall its feeling good.

One thing though is keeping me from using Funtoo as the main distro in this multiboot (all my machines are multiboot as a matter of principle) machine, and that is the programs i use the most, like Audacity, Rosegarden and MuseScore. Qsynth also, but at least fluidsynth is available. and QjackCtl, but that is not an absolute need.

I had thought of filling a bug report, but I wonder whether I would have to fill a long list of Bug reports, which would take considerably much time from an inveterate and and not so efficient (yet quite content) distro-hopper constantlly struggling with updatings and forum consultations.

So I am asking for advice here first, and in order to make things simpler, I am presenting the problems in code format, gathered today immediately after running:

In my searching I have not found any references to these problems, which I have also noticed in at least another machine I have been working on at the same time (may provide info on that too).

I have though noticed that Funtoo is not the only one having problem with these applications. Some of them are also present in some of my other distros (Slackware, Artix, Void). With the exception of Void which I have started to use much later than the others, all worked great, and some still do in older installs in my older Core Duo desktop, where I am affraid to update Funtoo as Audacity is still installed, although not starting, something I will be taking in another thread here, or Discord, or a bug-report.

As funtoo is in itself working great so far I will continue to use it often in my everyday, using another machine when doing music. Strangely enough the last few weeks I have been using my music stuff mostly Audacity simultaneously with Rosegarden, in an older CoreDuo with 2GB ram and it is just fine.

Hello, I installed funtoo linux but I have a problem, I cannot boot the system normally. it stays in the title section while the system is booting. I was able to boot the system as nomodeset. My graphics card is gt420. The system came with the nvidia-settings application installed, it opens, but when I open it from the terminal, the application opens again, but it gives an error that the nvidia driver is not loaded etc. I think this is related to nomodeset, but I think it's also related to the system not booting normally. Because it comes with open source drivers installed. Thanks in advance.

	Hi,

after managing to install stage3 MATE variant and enabling
gfxcard-intel
mix-in (for Mobile GME965/GLE960 Integrated Graphics Controller, in particular a GLE960) + updating the entire system, i still get bad video performance on players like vlc (stuttering and high cpu usage). The high cpu usage, bad video quality and stuttering is a clear indication that there is very likely no hw acceleration involved or wrong/missing codecs. Any ideas what to fix or look at to find the cause? I had a live NomadBSD usb pen at hand and checked just for testing purposes the video output and quality there. Hw acceleration works out of the box and video quality was excellent, no stutter, no (too) high cpu usage.
I can' t find a link for support at the Macarroni site and I wonder whether one could ask here in case someone knows the answer, without expecting any obligation on your side.

I would like to incorporate Macarroni's iso in the Multiboot usb stick I usually travel with, but I had no success in booting the iso file from the usb, which has grub on its MBR, msdos partition table and boots several distros.

I don't even know if Macarroni's iso is bootable under these conditions. I can think of partitioning the usb stick with a GPT table if that is absolutely necessary to incorporate Macarroni.

Excuse me if you find this is not a convenient question

I'm comparing Funtoo behavior to other linux (specifically Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL), which is a RedHat fork).

Funtoo does not have locale configuration (specifically, I expect LANG=en_US.utf8) during non-interactive shells.

In my real world scenario, going "ssh <myhost>" then followed by "tmux attach" command interactively works fine

whereas "ssh <myhost> -t tmux attach" messes up all Unicode characters because LANG is not set and locale defaults to POSIX while using non-interactive shell.

Other linux (OEL, for example) has locale configuration called from .bashrc, while Funtoo .bashrc skeleton is literally empty.

I have no problem working around by adding that setting in .bashrc by hands, but should not that be a reasonable default? If so, I probably should file a bug. What do you think? What are the reasons of not setting locale in .bashrc for all shells including non-interactive? Whose strategy is right or wrong, Funtoo or OEL?

	Thank you for your input

This is a multiboot Fujitsu Esprimo, intel i5, 12 GB ram, latest updated 3 weeks ago I have noticed similar problems under Manjaro (updated today) and I wonder whether I should somehow test my hardware. I have been using Rosegarden with my midi keyboard as midi output for years and only used Qsynth a few times, and don't even remember under which distro it was.

Now I am starting to edit a large number of '.rg' files I recorded in Rosegarden through those years and would like to be able to do it away from my midi keyboard, using QSynth. I tried to load different sound fonts in QSynth, and now I am starting it without pre-setting any sound font, but I think this does not matter.

I can't make any sense out of these messages. Will be thankful for any tips.

I noticed that ebuilds for Python 3.8, 3.9, and 3.10 showed up in portage.

This seems exciting, because I've been chafing with missing some of the more recent features of Python for a while now!

They don't get installed by default, though, I assume because they are masked or something like that.

Can someone explain what I need to do to get Python 3.10 installed? Adding something to package.unmask, or setting a PYTHON_TARGET or PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET variable in make.conf, or anything like that? I understand if I'm doing this at my own risk.

	Hi,

I have been using Funtoo in the past. But I recently retired, bought a new laptop and just giving back a try at Funtoo, I'm kind of new here and would like to know if gnome 41 is going to hit portage soon ?

Since it is said on Funtoo site that gnome is a Class A support and since Gnome 41 is available since end of september 2021, I was expecting to build a recent gnome for desktop (not 3.36).

It's not to blame anybody, but I would like to know the plans about gnome ? Is it the best desktop to have with Funtoo ?

If one want to have a recent desktop, wich one would it be ? Or is there a "funtoo" way to install a more recent gnome ?

Long time no post! Got a new machine and installing Funtoo with the gnome stage 3 for Zen2. All came out well, however, I have a question about the results of `emerge --depclean -a`. One of the packages it wants to remove is liberation-fonts. Strange, because that's what Gnome Terminal is set to use by default. Makes me wonder how many of the other 20 odd programs slated to be removed will impact the system.

I also did a test install on another machine with the gnome haswell stage 3. Got it installed. Before running `ego sync` and `emerge world -uDNav` I ran `emerge --depclean -a`. The results were nearly identical. Here's the output of the `emerge --depclean -a` on the fully installed amd64 Zen2 gnome stage3 system:

Should I let it rip, or is something amiss here?

tesla ~ # emerge --depclean -a

* Always study the list of packages to be cleaned for any obvious
* mistakes. Packages that are part of the world set will always
* be kept. They can be manually added to this set with
* `emerge --noreplace <atom>`. Packages that are listed in
* package.provided (see portage(5)) will be removed by
* depclean, even if they are part of the world set.
*
* As a safety measure, depclean will not remove any packages

Since a long time ago on both gentoo and funtoo, networkmanager does not connect to 5Ghz wireless network. When I try to connect it goes through the password authentication, however, it does not acquire the ip and issues a message (with nmtui) such as: "the connection could not be activated and the Wifi network could not be found". I recently tested gentoo and now it works, I believe it is a version update issue. With connman it connects normally. Is this where I should report?

	Thanks.

I have just installed Funtoo on my Fujitsu Esprimo E and during post installation have been trying to use the swedish keymap, under XFCE, without success. I suspected it was due to my limited experience, but after googling a longer while I got the impression that many have had similar problems.

It works well in the console though - "keymap=sv/latin1" in/etc/conf.d/keymaps..

	My /etc/console.gen says:

en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
C.UTF-8 UTF-8
sv_SE.UTF-8 UTF-8
pt_BR.UTF-8 UTF-8
zh_CN.UTF-8 UTF-8

The apparently best answer I found was on https://forums.funtoo.org/topic/4879-polish-locales-it-might-be-helpful/#comment-17030 .

I did not dare tampering with make.conf, as advised on that thread, so that may be something to consider. Otherwise I think my settings correspond to what it is avised there.

I tried login out of Desktop and then login out again from console and login in and starting Xfce, again but no effect.. Same for rebooting. Hmmmmm!!!!! .... I did NOT try shutting down ????

But now I will post this, as I don't know how to save a post. Will try shutting down immediately after posting and if it works will report immediately thereafter.

I have been using Funtoo on a trial basis for several weeks and I feel great about it. I am a frequent user of Rosegarden and must have it on a distro If am to establish it as my daily-use distro. I tried to emerge it but <emerge --search> did not find it. Is it possible to install it somehow ? Perhaps compiling from sources ????

I have very little experience of /building/compiling but I have had success most of the few times I tried, and recently I compiled Rosegarden under Slackware Live. In some of my distros which don´t offer MuseScore I have been able to download its app version and run it with success, but I don't think Rosegarden is offered in app format. Although I am not familiar with Flatpak and Snap I have been able to get some program (forgot which one) from one of them but I am under the impression that Funtoo does not use them (???).

Thanks for a nice distro !

Update: Nevermind, I figured it out.

I haven't done an emerge for a while, and decided to do one now that I'm thinking about it. I don't remember my way around how to solve this, and I have to get back to my studies soon.

Anyway; I typed sudo emerge -auVDN @world into the console. It completed a lot of it, but stops here:
Here is the log file:

I see that it was not able to download it from the location that it attempts to get it from.

I personally don't care about having nano, because I have vim. So I uninstalled it hoping that it might just skip trying to get nano. But obviously that made no difference.

So any help would be great. Thanks!
