	This forum has several issues that together make it seem like it is semi-broken. (Although, I can see how #2 through #5 could be intentional, but I really hope they're not.)

	[1] · My user (and apparently, a few of others) are stuck at zero post count for some reason. EDIT: making my sixth? (not sure; didn't count) post now gave me a post count of one. What the...
</p>

<p>
	[2] · The post writing interface appears to lack a switch to disable the WYSIWYG mode and go to plain-text mode which allows to manipulate the whichever underlying markup language directly. I consider this very much a bug.
</p>

<p>
	[3] · Posts within a thread lack post numbers (i.e. numbers showing which post it chronologically is in a given thread.) This makes referencing a post in larger threads tad nontrivial if wanting to avoid outright quoting the said post.
</p>

<p>
	[4] · "Newlines are on sale – buy one, get one free!" i.e. adding an explicit newline in the text produces double line spacing AKA "reddit spacing", which is not always desired, yet some way to avoid this, when needed, is not exposed. Solving #2 would indirectly solve this one, I suppose.
</p>

<p>
	[5] · There is no way to either inline "code" or explicitly switch to a fixed-width font for a part of text, either witch are used to denote e.g. a command being referenced, which would be rather useful knowing the context of this forum. This too be would likely be indirectly solved if #2 gets solved.

<p>I am using sys-kernel/genkernel-3.4.40.7-r6:0, which is exactly what I can get. Not sure what the old behavior was. I'm not sure of anything with computer admin.</p>

<p>It seems that if I run: genkernel --kernel-config=.config-0 --menuconfig all</p>
<p>and if I make some changes via the menu to the kernel configuration and save the configuration as: config-1</p>
<p>then, it seems to me, after I exit the configuration menu w/o more menu changes the .config is a copy of .config-0 and not .config-1.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I had thought that my menu changes would be part of the kernel about to be compiled, but it seems to not be the case. It seems the original configuration from the file specified by --kernel-config is used regardless.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Is that actually happening and if so, is that appropriate?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>BTW, the funtoo documentation on compiling a kernel is really clear. So is the install documentation. Thank you.</p>

<p>Bonus question: know why my desktop settings get screwed up from compiling a new kernel to the same old kernel names under same old /boot? If that is the case. I have no idea. I don't understand how anyone can like making a linux distro and do it this well. The learning curve has spots without adequate documentation that are unique singleton show stoppers. (After two days trying to get clock="local" in /etc/conf.d/hwclock to work, I gave in and did clock="UTC"; can't remember the last time I booted the eeky Wyndoz.)</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Anyway, I'm more careful now by running genkernel twice just to get the .config I want (and I could use make menuconfig but I now have an affinity with genkernel, especially since my attempt with raw make did not mount, and not investigating either, need to solve the intermitent exit Xorg/desktop dark screen lockup and get eth0 as a backup to wlan0 and then work on my computer lol).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Bonus, bonus: I think it is bizarre that the ethernet driver Realtek 8168 comes as package r8168 and the (newer?) driver Realtek 8169 is available in the kernel configuration. Maybe politics? Maybe the package driver is not good enough in quality to be in the kernel? I'm gonna give it a try. dmesg is happy with r8168, (which required that I get rid of 8169 for real, or at least according to /usr/src/linux/.config that had to be there) and that's as far I as am right now.</p>

<p>Started when I tried to install Libreoffice.</p>
<p>During install emerge is running but I can't launch anything.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Rebooted and just get a blinking cursor.</p>
<p>Switched to tty2 and launched XFCE and when it starts the panel blinks for about .25 seconds, vanishes for 4, rinse repeat.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Restored drive.</p>
<p>Tried to update system.</p>
<p>Exactly the same things all over again.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>A bit annoyed at the fact that installing an app can zonk the system...an office app of all things.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>So...WTF to do when funtoo greets you with the blinking cursor?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I also couldn't install GIMP. Some error message. Have no clue how to handle this shat since I recently arrived from Arch and don't know jack about Portage.</p>

<p>Most of the info I find in searches is discombobulated and/or outdated.</p>

<p>Well, it's a weird one.  For a month or so I haven't been able to access any funtoo.org ip's, either from browser or ping, whatever.  I was busy with other things and worked out pretty quickly that it was localized on my everyday user laptop and discovered it was related to iptables, by stopping them I could access funtoo.org just fine, so I just lived with that for awhile.</p>
<p>Today I got serious about it and started removing lines from iptables one by one to find it.  Luckily it was line 2 in INPUT, deleted that and funtoo.org is accessible.  here is what it says:</p>

<p>I have a cronjob that downloads a list several times a day from <a href="http://www.team-cymru.org/Services/Bogons/fullbogons-ipv4.txt" rel="external nofollow">http://www.team-cymru.org/Services/Bogons/fullbogons-ipv4.txt</a> and adds them to an ipset list.  It's a list of known "bogons", bogus ip addresses that are being used for...who knows, nothing good for me.  As you can see anything that matches that list doesn't get in the door.</p>
<p>So my next step was:</p>

<p>Nope, no match.  Then I went to <a href="http://www.team-cymru.org/Services/Bogons/fullbogons-ipv4.txt" rel="external nofollow">http://www.team-cymru.org/Services/Bogons/fullbogons-ipv4.txt</a> and looked for 172.97.103.36 there.  Nope, ain't there either.  But still, for some reason it's apparently matching something somewhere on that list.  I can't explain it, but there it is.  Zero problems with any other ip's.  I've solved this for now by putting in a RETURN above the drop for 172.97.103.36, but I wanted to make the devs aware of it.  I've been using this iptables setup for a couple of years, this is the 1st time anything like this has happened.  I see on the front page of the wiki that Drobbins has been migrating containers to that address, the timing matches this problem.</p>
