emerge gobject-introspection fails with "No python..."

Trying to update today I found that gobject-introspection can't be emerged.  It first complains that a USE change is needed:

The following USE changes are necessary to proceed:
(see "package.use" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
#required by net-libs/gupnp-igd-0.2.2-r1[python], required by net-libs/libnice-0.1.4[upnp], required by media-plugins/gst-plugins-libnice-0.1.4-r100, required by net-libs/farstream-0.2.2, required by net-libs/telepathy-farstream-0.6.0, required by net-im/empathy-3.6.4, required by gnome-base/gnome-core-apps-3.6.2, required by gnome-base/gnome-3.6.2, required by @selected, required by @world (argument)
=dev-libs/gobject-introspection-1.34.2-r1 -python_single_target_python2_7

After adding that flag to package.use the emerge fails with:

* Package:    dev-libs/gobject-introspection-1.34.2-r1
* Repository: gentoo
* Maintainer: gnome@gentoo.org
* USE:        amd64 elibc_glibc kernel_linux python_targets_python2_7 userland_GNU
* FEATURES:   preserve-libs sandbox
* No Python implementation selected for the build. Please set
* the PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET variable in your make.conf to one
* of the following values:
*
* python2_7

* ERROR: dev-libs/gobject-introspection-1.34.2-r1 failed (setup phase):
*   No supported Python implementation in PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET.
*
* Call stack:
*                                ebuild.sh, line  93:  Called pkg_setup
*   gobject-introspection-1.34.2-r1.ebuild, line  40:  Called python-single-r1_pkg_setup
*                  python-single-r1.eclass, line 221:  Called die
* The specific snippet of code:
*           die "No supported Python implementation in PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET."

There appears to be no way around this impass.  It appears to be an old bug resurrected, see http://bugs.funtoo.org/browse/FL-321 which I believe turned out to be an upstream (Gentoo) bug but I'm not seeing any complaints in their forum right now.

Let me know if I should file a bug report to Funtoo or to Gentoo. [EDIT] There is now a bug report: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468588

Did you mask gupnp-igd as suggested in the bug report?  I'm ok after adding:

echo '=net-libs/gupnp-igd-0.2.2-r1' >>/etc/portage/package.mask

Didn't read that. But tested it (unmerged it before) but it didn't work.
