Proper method to decompress files in ebuild

According to Gentoo developer guide, function 'unpack' is used for uncompreses files listed in SRC_URI into current directory. It seems unpack function could not handle other file uncompression if the file is included into the package. Now, I am trying to uncompress it by 'tar' command directly, like this:

src_prepare() {
	cd ${WORKDIR}
	for x in Faience Faience-Azur Faience-Claire Faience-Ocre; do
		tar xf "${x}".tar.gz
	done
}

Instead of calling 'tar' directly, is there a proper method to do this in ebuild?

Not to my knowledge... If you need to grab extra bits and extract them you can go that way.
