eudev on Funtoo

Is it possible to install eudev and remove udev? If so... how would I accomplish it?
I have tried simply uninstalling udev and then emerging eudev but udev is added back and blocks.
I tired to mask but that did not work... my guess is udev is required by the funtoo profile.

Re: eudev on Funtoo

eudev is still new and probably not really ready yet. In any case, you experienced blocking because anything dependent upon udev should be depending on virtual/udev which does not yet allow eudev yet. I'm sure it will once eudev is actually ready.

Re: eudev on Funtoo

virtual/udev supports eudev, and eudev-0 was working for a while and providing something similar to udev-171. It seems that eudev-0 no longer exists, and newer versions are masked for now.

We are making progress to provide latest udev/eudev for desktop users as those packages will become optional for Funtoo. Stay tuned!

Re: eudev on Funtoo

Was just wondering how this is coming along, seeing as how there is a dire news item from Samuli Suominen about upgrading to udev >= 200. I noticed too on the latest sync that the udev 171 series has been hardmasked, so I assume that this news does not apply to Funtoo users? smile

Also curious, what is Funtoo's stand on systemd? It seems that Gentoo is going ahead with it, is that something that we need to worry about on the Funtoo side? wink
