not quite clear where you getting this error. Can you, please, provide details?
Funtoo Stage3s are indeed not bzip2 files. They are compressed with XZ. You need to extract them using the commands on Funtoo installation manual : tar xfvJp
sorry the question was so sloppy, was using tablet and i really hate the keyboard for touchpad.
ok i am using the latest SystemRescueCd-x86-3.4.1.
i did follow the http://www.funtoo.org/wiki/Funtoo_Linux_Installation. section, # cd /mnt/funtoo
# wget -O - http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/funtoo/funtoo … est.tar.xz | tar xfvJp -. the .xz was not recognized by systemrescue which is unusual as i checked the package list from the systemrescue site and .xzutils are a stock package.
maybe there have been changes or i just burned a bad copy, i have to admit i did not check the md5 for the burn will reburn and check, try again and get back to you.
thanks for the quick response
Please make sure that you have written the exact command.
If you typed "j" instead of "J", tar would have tried to extract a bzip2 tarball. Using capital "J" should extract the xz tarball.
tar xpf is enough, recent tar recognize .xz out of the box.
