Linksys AE1000 and AE3000

I have a couple of USB adapters and I know that the AE3000 has a driver for linux but it has to be manually compiled which is fine if.. I have the internet.

My AE1000 works out of the box with the latest systemrescuecd which I use to install distros like Funtoo or Gentoo, I recently installed gentoo but had no luck it may have just been my wifi settings I recently bought a Netgear N900 and have had no usb errors that pop up in the terminal and having to rechroot again and re-install packages.

I basically need to know what driver is the systemrescuecd using for wireless that allows me to use the ae1000 out of the box? 
The kernel I plan on using is the latest 3.7, nvidia 313.09 doesn't work with the latest version which is 3.8-r1.

Hope my friend D2 won't get mad at me tongue... but if you boot SystemRescueCd and run lsmod you perhaps will see something like rt2800usb. Should it be the case then go to :

Device Drivers

       [*] Wireless LAN --->
           <M>   Ralink driver support  ---> 
                 [*]     rt2800usb - Include support for rt35xx devices (EXPERIMENTAL) 

As you surely know you can set Ralink driver support as in-kernel <*> instead of as module <M>.

Here's what help says about this setting (vanilla-sources-3.7) :

Well actually I used genkernel to just see if I can boot and installed funtoo correctly, but thanks for the tip^^
Also, why isn't openrc 0.11.8 available? But not in funtoos portage tree? It's available for Gentoo though.

Funtoo mask a lot of stuff from Gentoo before it gets inside the Funtoo tree.

Did you try installing Debian sources with Use flag binary ? It's genkernel too. Just pay attention to BTRFS filesystem. Last time I tested Debian sources, BTRFS wasn't supported by this kernel.

On the other hand all should work fine. But if your linksys still isn't working, you go to /usr/src/linux and run make menuconfig to update kernel. This done then :

  • make -jn (where n is your number of processors +1)

  • make modules_install (update of /lib/modules)

  • mount /boot (if unmounted)

  • make install (add new kernel and related files to /boot)

  • boot-update (new GRUB menu)

  • reboot
