2012 Toolchain Update

Due to our toolchain becoming outdated, the following updates to the toolchain are being unmasked in experimental for testing:

sys-libs/glibc-2.15-r2
sys-kernel/linux-headers-3.4-r2
sys-devel/gcc-4.6.3
sys-devel/binutils-2.22-r1

Provided there are no major issues, we will update current in a few weeks and stable after that. As always, problems, issues, comments, questions, ect.. are always welcomed. Happy Testing smile

Re: 2012 Toolchain Update

The experimental branch is synced via profiles now correct? I'm using the experimental profile, but still don't see the updated packages on my system after this morning's sync.

Re: 2012 Toolchain Update

No, experimental tree is a separate tree with experimental brnach of funtoo-overlay merged. You have to change the SYNC in /etc/make.conf and  in /usr/portage/.git/config. Or just set experiemental tree in /etc/make.conf, dump existing tree and do a plain emerge --sync

Re: 2012 Toolchain Update

Thanks..

Based on the Experimental branch webpage, I wasn't sure if experimental-mini-2011.git was still being used or not. BTW, is the plan to get rid of it at some point in the future and just use the experimental profile? (Or what is the experimental profile for?)

Re: 2012 Toolchain Update

there is no experimental profile but experimental tree, it will not get removed, as it serves for internal tests. You mean funtoo-1.0 profile? It is almost ready to replace old monolithic profiles.

Re: 2012 Toolchain Update

Yes. There is an experimental Funtoo 1.0 profile. What is the intention behind that?

Thanks..

Re: 2012 Toolchain Update

Right now all the experimental profile does is set the proper SYNC variable. This insures if you remove your tree and run emerge --sync. It will clone the experimental tree provided it's not being overridden in make.conf
Even though it doesn't do much right now, if your using the experimental tree then you should set your profile to this as it might change in the future. I'd like to see this get used more over our current method of committing to 2 branches/trees

Is there any plan to upgrade toolchain in stable this year? Thanks.
