Complains of no drivers for video_cards=intel, and some ABI error. Postinf from another PC
In /etc/portage/make.conf, I have VIDEO_CARDS="intel"
Keyboard is working
Any suggestions for solving this appreciated. (After reboot, startx is not working)
By the way, I did not know you are Oleg Vinichenko. Read on the website

Show file /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
you have to rebuild x11-drivers
# emerge @x11-module-rebuild
# emerge -1 $(qlist -IC x11-drivers/)
Thanks. Your suggestion worked. Everything's OK.
But, as I said some time ago, just a word in 'news announcements' page would have helped.
I always check here before upgrading
well, sorry about that. THis is very well known fact, that every X bump, ABI is changed, so you have to rebuild drivers.
there is also an ewarn that is on the screen when you build it:
ewarn "You must rebuild all drivers if upgrading from <xorg-server-$(get_version_component_range 1-2)" ewarn "because the ABI changed. If you cannot start X because" ewarn "of module version mismatch errors, this is your problem." echo ewarn "You can generate a list of all installed packages in the x11-drivers" ewarn "category using this command:" ewarn " emerge portage-utils; qlist -I -C x11-drivers/" ewarn "or using sets from portage-2.2:" ewarn " emerge @x11-module-rebuild"
you really must read those when your emerge is finished, they contain information that is truly useful, and many times needful.
Thanks, angry_vincent, Azerthoth
From next upgrade, I will really take care. I never read those messages. Also, as vincent stated, I was not aware that drivers are to be rebuilt after xorg-server upgrade.
Thanks again to both of you
(I did not know that angry_vincent is Oleg Vinichenko. Read on funtoolinux website)
