tv or monitor ?

i use my computer to watch movies and surf the net, will soon add a tv card.

i have a 24" led monitor now. from a distance it is a little small, so i am looking to upgrade.

has anyone experienced using an hdtv as a monitor?

what was your opinion?

got an email promo from newegg today and i am looking at this:

May you re-discover what the poor in 18th century France discovered, that rich people's heads can be mechanically separated from their shoulders if they refuse to listen to reason.

Re: tv or monitor ?

Whiteghost, I was thinking of doing a similar thing... one tricky thing with TVs is that the brightness might not go down low enough for up-close viewing. You might want to see if you can play with one in a store first.

Also note that for that price, you could quite easily do something like this:

That is 3 x 1920 x 1200 ... smile

Re: tv or monitor ?

My 60" has a VGA port.

Tried plugging my laptop in, but I would require arms 3 metres in length.

Now I have wireless keyboard and mouse.

I still would like more pixels though...

Re: tv or monitor ?

I occasionally use 32" fullhd tv with hdmi. If you already have the tv it works fine as display. I wouldnt buy one for the primary display though. I can set the brightness really low with remote.

Once used it like this :

Re: tv or monitor ?

it works great for me. price has sure come down in a year.
i'm disabled, mostly back problems. this size screen (40") i can sit back in my recliner with no pain and adjust screen so i can read pages. hurrah!
i use it mostly in movie mode for reduced brightness.
