I hear Funtoo has some great things going for it, git based portage, follows gentoo upstream, and so on.
But what are some factors that you'd choose funtoo over gentoo? Is it essentially faster at emerging packages? Faster install(that'd be a plus..)?, or what?
I like Gentoo it's a nice and easy distro to manage well for me anyway, I'd thought I'd come here asking about funtoo and why you would choose it over gentoo.

There was a prior thread on this subject, and the main suggestion there was that for these kinds of questions, the Funtoo Linux Vision is the best place to start, followed by IRC irc://freenode.net/#funtoo. I would add that the Funtoo Google Groups seem pretty active, and may be useful for this kind of feedback.
Good Luck..

I gotta say installing Funtoo is fast.. much quicker than gentoo(by hours..) I followed the standard installation but modified the kernel to my needs, basically added btrfs support, alsa, and some other important parts.
I will say this, if anything Funtoo is a quick way to install gentoo.

One of my reasons for choosing funtoo over gentoo, was the better unicode support. You can probably get that working in gentoo also, but in funtoo it is default. Ascii is not enough for my language, so having everything "just work" with little effort is nice. I feel handicapped if I can't type my own language on the command line or in vim. Non-ascii filenames should be readable both in GUI and on the console. And it seems to work fine.

I switched because I just really liked the Funtoo community. I don't have any hard feeling toward Gentoo. I loved it since I started using it. You couldn't pay me to go use a binary distro full time again ( ok well maybe i would for money). Funtoo just has a smaller, tight knit community, a small group of developers, and a BDFL to make the final decision when devs don't agree. And most idea's and proposals for change are ran by the user community, not just the devs, for input before being implemented.

Funtoo is just more fun!!! heh
Really it's just so easy to manage and stable. Am running the same desktop install
since back in 2007. Updates are generally trouble free and plenty of warning when
particular packages are coming down the tree. Support is top notch as well.

It's really a fast and stable distro. I can actually do the install without reading the guide it's so easy! Gentoo takes more time, where I can get a Funtoo box running in no time. Funtoo has never broken on me either, but take it with a grain of salt since I only used gentoo for a little while.
